Just A Quick Question??

Hi i was just wondering what everyone uses? Weather it be a hoop, frame etc. I dont no what to buy to make it easier for when i want to start doing larger peices. I have a neck problem and find it hard to look down at things for to long and im gettin fustrated lookin on different sites to see what could help, theres so many things out there. Thanks

I generally use a scroll type frame of some description. I find them easier to hold than a hoop and don't mark/crease the fabric.

If you are going to work on a large project, I would suggest investing in a floor stand like the Siesta Stitchmaster. I have one, and they can be very comfortable to use.

I was a firm believer in the hoops until someone introduced me to the Q-snap frames they hold well they don't crease the fabric and they are in many sizes. This is there site http://www.qsnap.com/needlework_frames.asp but I am finding that they are turning up in more and more places. I am finding it hard to get just the right stand/clip combination for the bigger pieces I do but I am in the process of figuring it out and will let you know when I find just the right set-up.

I have got a 6 inch and 8 inch Qsnap frames and I think they are gseat.
I also bought and eleven inch one and extra two sides which maked about 18 inches rectangle one but have not used it yet.
I did see some brackets for attaching it to a table or I saw them. floor stand but cannot remember where

I love my Q-snaps but if I have a really big project I use a scroll frame and a floor stand. That is until I can get a floor stand for the q-snaps.

I've got a Siesta Stitchmaster floor stand too and find it extremely useful. I've got my large project - the bellpull - on a roller frame, but it's too large for me to hold comfortably, so the floor stand is ideal. I like hoops for small projects. I've started looking at Q-snap frames - they don't seem to be used as much in the UK. Thanks for the link, Rose. Even though roller frames are fine, I hate that initial messing about of having to sew the fabric to the roller etc. I just want to get on with the stitching!

I use the scroll frames mainly. I love them! I sit in an armchair when I'm stitching so I have two "arms" on each side on the frame I stick down either side of my legs and rest on the armrest of my chair. That way I don't need to hold onto the frame, and can use both hands. Can also adjust the angle so I can lean forward with a pillow stuck behind my back, or lean back, neither of which make me hurt.

For smaller projects, or the afghan I'm doing at the mo, I use a hoop. I don't really like them though. I'm interested in trying the qsnaps after hearing such great reviews on here, but they seem really expensive to get hold of in the UK, so I've stuck to the cheaper options. If anyone knows of a good supplier, I'm all ears!!

I like my hoops but I have a roller frame that has clips for my larger projects,but I do without sometimes as well!

I don't use either. I have tried but get on much better with the fabric in my left hand. I learnt that way. I have tried a hoop for free stitch embroidery, but I'm very much a novice at that.

one with a floor stand?? q snap??? etc ahhhhh theres so many, but a floor stand sound good and so does the qsnap will have to have a ponder on the prices now. Thanks again

i'm currently using a plastic hoop, but that's just until i can get my hands on some qsnaps and try them. the hoop makes my hand hurt after a while.

Well, I couldn't manage without a floorstand, although mine is an old-fashioned (but very serviceable) Opus.
I've used all manner of frames and hoops. Even q-snaps. In fact, at the moment, I have one project in the q-snaps, one on rollers for the Opus stand, and one on my super-sized big free-standing tapestry frame. (Need to sort these UFOs...!) Many years of stitching are represented here.
When I first started stitching, q-snaps weren't available (they hardly are now, in the UK!), only roller frames. The choice is wonderful now, but slightly bewildering, too. If you know other stitchers, can you borrow either a hoops or roller to see how you get on?

Thats just it i only know my OHs mum as she use to stitich and she only has hoops and i didnt really get on with them last time but could give them another go i suppose. Thanks again for ur help everyone.

I don't use hoops or frames, I just hold the fabric in my hand. I do have a medium size scroll frame bought last year whilst visiting famly in the USA, but I find it quite heavy to hold. The advantage I find to the frame is, that I don't touch the fabric, and therefore not getting it grubby.

I mix up what I use depending on the project and the needs. When I need two hands the floor stand works well. The q snaps in varying sizes are great especially for the hand-dyedfabrics. For some reason the extra tension is very compatible with the shrunk down holes on the linen. I also frequently work my linen in hand, without anything. You can also get an attachment for the q snap for the floor stand.

I have a similar thing, but it's a scroll not a hoop. The thing you stick under your leg is great, you can then use both hands, which I prefer. Just don't go rushing to answer the phone in a hurry, you end up in a crumpled heap on the floor!!! (Yes, that is speaking from experience!!
