Another question

Could u please tell me which is the best fabric to stitch on and wheres the best place to get it?? Im lookin for a large peice but will also be lookin for smaller ones to. Thanks

everyone here knows A LOT more than i do, but i would think that just depends on preference and the way you like your finished project to look. personally, i prefer evenweave, and the cheapest place i've found to get it is ebay (though you have to make sure to get it from a non-smoking home)

rubyviolet is right the type of fabric will depend on what you want the finished project to look like. I use primarily aida cloth as it is what "I" like to use but you can get evenweave or linen that is very nice when finished. I also love to use the waste canvas. This way you can stitch on anything, any fabric the sky is the limit.

I'm sorry sammy I don't recall where you are from so prices are hard to tell each country is so different in their prices but again as rubyviolet said e-bay is a good source but I have heard that Sew and Sew is also very good. As a stitcher in the states we are pretty spoiled with our options.

Fabric for stitching has a lot in common with clothes. Your mother was right: buy the best made you can afford and make sure it suits the occasion!
If you are relatively new to cross-stitching, aida fabric is easy to use and comes in different count sizes, although the most common is 14ct (which is to say, 14 holes per inch), and colours. The 16ct and 18ct versions are finer (obviously!) and will work very well with almost any stitching design.
There are differences in aida, just as there are in floss. If you stick to the major brands (Zweigart for fabric; DMC or Anchor for basic floss, etc) you won't go wrong. There are a lot of sharp operators out there, and cheap isn't always better.

Hi everyone,
I agree with a lot of the other answers.
I prefer 14 aida and sometimes 18 aida, You can get it in many colours .
I have not used linen or material like it.

Thanks ever so much. I have used aida b4 and got on with it well but i got a freebie in a mag and thats even weave and i like that to just didnt no which would be a better finish and that.

This is so true for so many things now adays and thats y i was asking, as i would rather be recommended to shop somewhere then to just dive in.

Its very nice to know that i can ask about things im unsure of.

Ive been lookin on ebay and theres some good prices on there but just unsure which would be best really, cos in the UK its hard to find a shop that sells it near u, where u aint gonna pay through the nose lol. Thanks again ladies and ill have a look around.

If you got a freebie with evenweave, you are a lucky girl! I use a lot of linen and evenweave, and the finish is superb. Have a go with it: it's different to Aida, but easy to use once you get the hang of it. And the finish is much better, IMHO, especially for big and/or important pieces.

I started to do it and i think i fine this much better and easier to be honest, its 32 count i perfare it. I got it in the magazine called the world of cross stitching issue 128. It a flower fairies kit, i thin i may stick i with evenweave then aida as i find this stiffer to hold in my hand.

I would also love to do a big project on evenweave and as u have suggested.

And the finish is much better, IMHO, especially for big and/or important pieces.

ok im all confused now as this stuff i got in the mag is ruff and it says that it was 32 count evenweave but i have been told that evenweave is soft. Could u tell me which it rite?? ty

hi sammy: no, you're not confused! some evenweave is rough, and some is soft. it depends on the brand used. For example, the type of evenweave supplied in the Lanarte kits is very soft and pliable. So, don't worry about whether the fabric is rough or soft, it will still look gorgeous.
Which kit are you doing? I 've done a couple of the flower fairy kits, too, but they came with aida.

Hi thanks, i was starting to think i was going abit mad hahaha, well madder. I got it free in a magazine i bought its called the guelder rose fairy. Cant wait to finish it.
