Jilly, Nikecam and Mabel's BoInk SAL

Post by Mabel Figworthy »

Two SALs on the go and a fair number of other WIPs -- I just hope I'll be able to finish something every now and then :-).

One BoInk SAL having finished, a new one is started; if anyone else is interested do please join us, the more the merrier and no pressure or stress, we all do this at our own pace -- snail's pace in my case probably!

I'll get my materials together this afternoon and put up a photograph; like Serendipity I would like to get the outline out of the way first, so the initial stages won't look very interesting, but I'm sure Jilly's will more than make up for that :-).

The ones I have are just normal threads, so no sparkle.
I do believe Mabel has the silk version of these threads, so it will look stunning :D

I have some of the same colours, though I think my light blue and purple are probably different, and I'll be using ordinary DMC for the black.

As for the stats: the fabric is antique white 32ct Jobelan, the threads are Madeira no.4024 pale gold, DMC 310 (black), and Carrie's Creation silk in the colours Sunflower, Citrus, Olde Salem Red, Lavender, Blueberry, Sapphire, Rainforest and Gold Glow. You will see from the picture that the shades are not quite "solid", and I hope that that will give a sort of watercolour effect.

The eagle-eyed (eagle-brained?) among you will realise that there is one colour too many -- this is because I thought Sunflower was too bright for the border bits which I would like to look like gold leaf, but Gold Glow was too browny gold for what I wanted in the individual motifs. So whenever there is yellow in the motifs, I'll use Sunflower, and for the borders it'll be Gold Glow with one strand of pale gold blending filament.

Oh, I've made a few changes to the chart, I found the last square too dark so lightened it up a little, changed black to dark blue somewhere and yellow to orange. You'll see :-).

It's actually a bit more purple in real life, my camera really exaggerates blues :-( -- I hope i'll show up more realistically when I've stitched with it!

Beautiful colours! :applesauce: :applesauce: Go girls, go!

Interesting, how my view of stitching has changed in the past year. About a year ago, when I started my BoInk, I didn't think of using anything else than DMC solid colours, though I played around a bit to find out what to do about the gold. Now I am sure I would be tempted by so many different options like silks and variegated floss and all that - my stitchign world has widened, thanks to you all! :D

Threads are such fun

I was not sure about the Sunflower either Mabel, so I ordered gold to compare, I enlisted the judging skills of Mr Jilly and he has chosen Sunflower after all, I am interested to see if it works for me when I start stitching :thinks:

  A dilemma! I spent last night oversewing the edges of my fabric, found and marked the middle, this morning I got out the iron to get rid of the packing creases in it and found a hole
It is two inches away from the top edge, I now have to decide if I send it back, or try to ignore it an just make sure I finish it in a way that will not show the hole.
I am thinking it will be a wall hanging, so I may be able to work round it.
I may well be taking inspiration from your dilemma Wendy :D

Oh I do understand Jilly! At least you've discovered this at the start. I put my border fabric closer that I had wanted to the edge which was a bit fiddly, but it worked out OK. *whew* :hot:

I hope you can find a solution. :)

I hope you can find a solution. have you counted - maybe it is in a place that will be stitched full so it won't be seen?

Oh what a nuisance! I hope you'll find a solution that you are happy with

I've been lazy about this one -- after all that hemming for Serendipity I stuck the edges of this one down with masking tape  :-)

I decided that it was far enough away to be ok, if I make it into a wall hanging it will be at the point where I turn the fabric over the rod/bell pull, two inches is quite a lot of border, so I have started the middle bits now :D
