Post by moonwolf »

hi all, this is my first post.. infact ive never even cross stiched before to my knowledge, i guess i may have make a bookmark at schoolonce but i dont remember  !)

All going well , we will soon be moving into a new house.. well victorian.. hence my question.
I wuld really ike to make my partner some kind of " no place like home" " "love makes a house a home"/.. you know the kinda thing .sampler , and 1) i cant find any i like.. maybe you peeps can point me in the direction and 2) how can i ensure that it looks old, any tricks of the trade??? A faded, worn , muted coloured and tatty victorian look is what im after.

look forward to any suggestions you may have, and to being spurred on to start my first cross sticth

many thanks nikky

Hello and welcome! I haven't had a look for charts yet, but as to your second question, you could try stitching it on Zweigart's "vintage" fabrics, which have a mottled look; if you choose a cream or brown one it should look nice and antique!

You can have a look here for aida (this is the 18ct, but it comes in 14ct as well, in more colours), and here for linen (28ct, but also available in 32ct)

As long as you make sure you still enjoy it -- a challenge is fine, but starting on something that will have you tearing your hair out is definitely NOT what we're aiming for :-)!

If you buy the fabric you will then need to find a chart to stitch and of course buy the threads, the other option is to buy a ready made up kit but to my knowledge you will possibly only get either cream or white aida or evenweave in the kit apart from some of the samplers may have linens, which in my personal opinion may be a little challenging for your first project It may be worth taking you time and browsing some sites like these

Good luck and most impotantly enjoy your stitching

In our General Section you will find a post near the top of the page it is Internet Sites. It has many many links to sites that have charts and other cross stitch products. You can spend hours and hours browsing those sites. :D

My 2 personal favorites are

http://www.123stitch.com/patterns_kits.html" target="_blank

or

http://www.patternsonline.com/Patterns/List.aspx" target="_blank

both of these have a search box and if you ask for your Home Sweet Home
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
