Thank you all so very much! I have been focusing on the blackwork for the last two days, which is finally complete, so I hope to have a new update pic on this sampler tomorrow or Saturday.

I really do appreciate all the support and comments from everyone here, it really does help motivate me to continue stitching! Thank you all so very much!!!

Auntie Serinde, you aren't the only one to tell me that. A mailing list I am on said I am insane for doing TW in the first place and to have 3 wips of her charts means I need to be institutionalized. LOL

They are a lot of work, but the end result is just so gorgeous that it makes every annoying re-thread and every frogging all worth it. I was hooked when I got half way through "The Castle", it just looked so real, so beautiful!

Give the bookmark a try, it really isn't as hard as it looks. It's just one stitch at a time like every other pattern :)

I agree, they really aren't as hard as they look, and the end results are fabulous. For a while, those were the only charts I would do....everything else I found was too simple or twee for my taste (lovely, mind you, just not my taste). I've started doing HAED and Scarlet Quince now, so clearly I am headed toward institutionalization myself, but I think it proves what so many people on this list have said. Do what you love, and the stitching is fun, otherwise...not so much. TW's are super detailed, but watching the picture pop is worth every fractional and blended color.

Your wedding sampler is wonderful!!! I love watching this grow! :applesauce:

I'm also in the middle of a TW, and I find that I look at other charts now and go "hmmm I could make those two fractional stitches instead" as I can't bear backstitching over full cross stitch as to my eyes it just looks messy.

Harder to do on Aida than the evenweave I'm using for my TW but I'm sure it'll all be worth it at the end.

Hear hear! the only time I thought it looked right was when the outline was "fluffy" and not an unbroken line, and the sticky outy bits looked like fuzzy fur, but usually it irritates me beyond belief and I just have to put in fractionals

Me too. I have a bit of a pet hate on that and like you have to make up fractionals to smooth the outline and make it more pleasing to my eye.

I'm so relieved I'm not the only one!

And thanks for the SQ recommendation upthread, once I finish my 2 WIPs (and 3 projects yet to begin) I might well get one of those. I like a challenge me!

And I should say that Raven's sampler is looking lovely. I'm sure it'll be a wonder and much treasured when complete.

I guess I am a member of the pro-TW camp given I am 60% of the way thru her Carousel. I have to agree they're not for the faint-hearted as the detail is excruciatingly fine! And don't even think about a TW if you dislike tweeded threads. That said, Raven put it well with "it's just one stitch at a time like any other pattern", and the effort is SO worth it.

They are definitely 'heirloom' pieces, and I would advise anyone setting out on a TW to think hard about the fabric choice and to buy the best quality fabric they can get their hands on, and to work their stitches to the best quality possible. A TW will be around for years!!

I also will put a half or quarter stitch in place of a full stitch. I don't like those full stitches sticking out.
