HAED- "Cascade"

Post by crystaltigress »

I've been stitching for 24 years (since i was 10), and have done a great many projects... and I'm ready to work on my heirloom! I've recently picked up a wooden frame that is going to be large enough to mount the 24 by 55 inch fabric I've decided on. Awaiting that in the mail. I've got most of the 90 colors, and a new line keeper since the magnet was worn out on my old one....
When recieve my 26 ct evenweave I'm thinking about gridding, which I have never done before. I've done the research, and it seems almost like a must for this size project- 60 pages!!!! My idea is to grid out each page of the pattern with one color, and the 10 by 10 in another... has anyone done this?

Lovely design! :D It will be a fantastic heirloom piece.

Sorry, I only tried gridding once, and gave up on it; but I reckon you'd need to grid HAED.

This is a beautiful design - looking forward to seeing you start stitching!

Regarding gridding, I'm doing a HAED myself and haven't gridded as I never have on anything else. I guess it's down to personal preference, but taking the HAED one page at a time, I'm not finding it any more complicated than any other chart - just tinier!

If seeing the boundaries is your issue could you instead grid 10x10 in the same colour, and then subsequently grid the page boundaries in another colour?

Are you gridding with pen or thread?

I'm glad to see someone else doing a Bowser design (I'm doing The Awakening - pictures in my blog). I haven't gridded mine and haven't had any problems, i'm careful with my counting and mark off my chart as i go. I can't wait to see your progress on this one.

I've got two HAED's on the go and like the others, I haven't gridded either. I think if you just go page by page you can get away without gridding as long as you count carefully..but if you really want to grid then I think it would probably work the way you wanted to do it. :D It really is a lovely design and I really can't wait to see progress pics!!

 what a project! Count and count again, I suspect is the best answer. Gridding might help, too.

Looking forward to watching you progress on this one. I'm also interested to see what you decide to do over the gridding.

I love the look of this HEAD and will be watching with interest. I can't comment on the gridding as I haven't done one.

I've got my fabric! I'm very excited in that it is exactly what I wanted.... ordering online made me a bit uncomfortable. I found a great deal on a remnant. But the real excitement comes from the pure SIZE... this piece is almost as big as a door!!! (24 by 55 inches) I believe the word one person used was 'daunting'. Indeed it is.
I am still on the fence about gridding, and if so how much. I have two small projects to finish and ponder my plan of attack. I may just grid (carefully) the pages. Either way it will take some time, and if gridding out the 10 by 10 makes the next ?5 years?? a little easier, then, well....

I greatly appreciate the warm welcome, not only on this thread but on others, and thank you for all of your replies and support! I plan on being here for a long time!

Oh she's absolutely gorgeous! I really look forward to seeing this one progress.

I tried gridding with my Huge Project and found it actually not necessarily all that helpful. It helped at first, because it made it easier for me to focus on that little 10 x 10 square, but once I'd got into that habit a bit I actually found the gridding if anything to be a bit of a hindrance!

I haven't seen a HAED yet I haven't liked and this is a stunner! As for gridding I recently started a quick stitch HAED and I have just done a 10x10 outline of the piece and couldn't be bothered with doing the rest. I think it depends on how meticulous you are about counting your stitches and if you travel across your fabric a lot. I don't and so far am finding the outline a nuisance rather than a help.
