Christmas Stockings!!!!!

Post by minij »

Firstly I must apologise for talking Christmas in June  BUT I would like to stitch 2 of the Dimensions stockings for this year and with everything else I really will need to start in the next few weeks

Secondly does anyone know if the instructions in the Christmas stockings are just for the cross stitch bit or does it include making them up as I am not very good at general needlework  Also do you know what make threads dimensions use

Thirdly I am looking for the following charts if anyone has them and no longer needs them I would be so very grateful. I will of ccourse either buy them of you or sort out what stash you would like.

Sorry for all the questions but as I have the DMC threads i don't really want to buy the complete kit unless I have to

The pattern usually shows you where the outline of the stocking is. The ones I've done will tell you how many squares to cut away from the outline so you have room to sew it together. I've had one kit that had a felt backing with the outline of the stocking printed on it so you just had to cut it out.

What I did with mine was to use the backing fabric (felt or whatever was in the kit if I liked it) for the back part of the stocking. I then bought a thin cotton material in a solid colored fabric that went with my pattern. I cut out 2 stockings to line the inside of the stocking so that when something was put inside, it doesn't pull the threads. I left some extra fabric at the top of the liner so that I could fold it over the top of the stitched piece to give it a finished look. I know I'm not explaining this well. There's a picture of my finished stockings in the gallery here if that would help. Also, some kits will give you a piece of ribbon for the hanger. I actually used yard and braided it to form a hanger with a tassel.

Good luck finding the patterns you want. I know there are books out there of just patterns, but I'm not sure what's in them. Maybe someone will have more time to help look than I do at the moment.

These are lovely projects, Janet. If you manage to find the charts, you can get a conversion from Dimensions to DMC floss here.
