Excellent tips 8)

I would love a swimming pool!! And Serinde - I'll be up in Aultbea again at the end of July. Can't wait! I miss Scotland so much.

Thankfully it wasn't too bad last night - didn't need the fan on, and there was a nice cooling breeze (albeit a stinky one) from the Thames through the bedroom window.

Tomorrow is meant to get hotter though.....

I agree with what everyone else has said........ although hope I'm not alone in suffering really bad hayfever these last couple of weeks so opening windows is a bit of a no-no.... Still have sorted myself out with one-a-day tablets now so should be OK. Also we've been paddling in the sea a few times :D and with there being no grass or flowers there it seems to ease it as well as cooling your feet!
Luckily my office is air conditioned but I'd still point out that it being too hot is as least not as dangerous as snowy, icy roads, blizzards etc, at least over here.

I open all north facing windows (front of house) close all curtains on the south (back of house) and in the evening open all curtains and open the windows. This seems to work in keeping the house cool, so me cool as well.

Although, I must admit I get more sewing done in winter than summer.
17C? Freezing? Sounds like a normal summer's day to me up here in the Frozen North!   It is currently 16C (66F) and the high is meant to be 25C (77F): perfect for stitching outside. :D :applesauce: :D
I agree, Serinde! It sounds like perfect weather to me. That's actualy about where our temps will be today after 8 days of 90 plus weather.

Swimming pools have apparently come to the rescue, but it must be awfully uncomfortable to sleep at night, even if the temp falls to 80F... :(

It was 20 here last night!!  And today was 35!
We haven't got a pool but we do have an outside shower which is lovely! It's solar heated so you can have it tepid! Less of a shock than :cold:

It's even hot at work today and usually it's so cold in this building that I wear a hoodie sweatshirt all year long! I just checked the forecast and it's 93F out right now which means the house is going to be roasting hot. Downstairs isn't too bad since most the windows face north but upstairs it feels like an oven until the sun goes down and of course all the bedrooms are upstairs! If it's seriously too hot for me to sleep then I usually just cave in and turn the air conditioner on. As long as I only have to do that once in awhile then my electric bill isn't too horrible. You know it actually surprised me a lot when I first moved to colorado that a lot of people here don't have air conditioners. I guess I just figured everyone did but that was probably from growing up in southern california where the air conditoner ran pretty much nonstop from june to september and it was unheard of if you didn't have air conditoners and ceiling fans. (luckily, my dad worked for the electric company and got a big discount!)
