Slinky's Stitching - Update 16/04/10

Post by Slinky »

As I don't always set up a SAL thread for every project, I thought I'd do as many of you here, and bundle all my stitching together in a single thread.

So, welcome to Slinky's Stitching!!

I've just received the following back from the framer's:

Image

It's from Nora Corbett's Alphabet range, and is stitching using Crescent Colors floss & Mill Hill beads/treasures on 28ct marbled brown evenweave. I didn't spend as long considering this project as I perhaps ought to have done and I am not sure I like the fabric, but it's too late now!! The frame is actually a metallic bronze which is beautiful but the pic makes it look a flat brown.

Image

Have to say, it was a pleasure to stitch. I DO like Ms Corbett's designs, these and Mirabilia too.

Lovely beading, so effective! Is her dress stitched in variegated thread, or is it very clever shading?

That letter is definitely fancy, whether in cotton or silk :-)!

I'd definitely tempt you to try some of the Belle Soie though -- it's gorgeous! (Unfortunately also rather expesive :-( )

I wasn't kidding when I said I was keen to get the Carousel finished so I could move on to new projects, so this weekend I am starting two new charts.

The first is the Angel of Hope which c_f kindly gave me. I am doing this as a gift for my new(ish) niece. She will be stitched on 32ct Belfast 'Enchantment' fabric from Silkweaver as I wanted to give the impression of the angel arriving out of a stormy sky. Threads will be trusty DMC 2x2., with a smattering of beading at the end.

The second is the light relief to the above project! It's Mayflower Landing - a small sampler depicting the arrival of the Mayflower settlers in the States. Not everyone's choice, I know, but my family come from Plymouth (from where the Mayflower set sail) and we have visited Plymouth in Mass where the arrival point is. Anyway, my grandfather (Plymouth man all his life) has recently moved into a care home (he's 96 and a good old boy) and I thought he'd like this for his room. Maybe. I haven't fully decided! I'll stitch it up and see!! Anyway, it's on Light Sand Belfast, I think, with DMC and Crescent Colors 2x2

Will make a start next day or so and post progress pics!
