John James twin pointed needles - sew faster??
Has anyone used these? I was reading about them a few days ago in cross stitch mag and have never heard or seen them. I have since found someone on ebay who has some and I am wondering if anyone has experience with them and would share their opinion.

Hi Barb Yes I have trird them and they do help you sew faster however they ar twice as long as normal needles and havinf the eye in the center makes it a weak point so I kept bending or breaking them! I have now gone back to normal needles in a size 26 but I do sew with both ends of the needle so I don't turn it after each stitch. Hope that this makes sence.

I've been tempted by twin pointed needles too. I've just been on the John James website and had no idea there were so many types of needle. Mattress needles? That's new to me, they're huge!

I have some twin-pointed needles but not really used them that much. I found I kept getting the thread twisted and poked myself a lot! I broke the first one after a few hours' stitching. They are a good idea but they don't seem to make that much differece for me.

John James has a website?
I couldn't find it when I googled it. How weird. Anyway, awaiting needles, got a pack for my friend who is ultra excited like me and will be interesting to see what breakage is like cause they aren't cheap.

Yes they have a website - and it's cheaper to buy direct rather than via sew and so. I bought a few packs of gold needles, came to just over £10 so got free delivery as well. Very good service.

I did try them and didn't like them. I did't find that they helped me stitch faster though I tend to stitch in hand, not on a frame, and I kept poking myself with them.

I have had a play with them and can't decide yet if I like them or not cause they dont feel right and so I am not going any faster. Hmm, me thinks I may have been sucked in and wasted $$.

You won't know until you have tried them. I used one, and found it quite handy. For some reason it was quite easy to 'railroad' with them. But I do cross the stitches as I go, so perhaps that had something to do with it.

I think I will stick with my regular needles. The twin pointed needles sound difficult.

I know if I had these I would stab myself.
But the best needles I have ever used (thanks Jilly for introducing me to them
) are piecemakers.

ihad the problem of the thread twisting a lot..and the needle breaking in the middle..i didn't care for them. I can't wait to get my lapstand..so I can do 2 handed stitching w/ a regular needle.

Re: John James twin pointed needles - sew faster??
I just started trying 2 handed stitching with my stand last week, and I really like it. I'm railroading the thread on this project since there's a lot of blended colors, so it definitely helps having one hand underneath to pull and one on top to straighten the threads. It's also helping with my wrist problems. Of course, I still use my regular q-snap in my hand, so I don't get completely dependant on 2 handed stitching.coffee_freak wrote:ihad the problem of the thread twisting a lot..and the needle breaking in the middle..i didn't care for them. I very occasionally use two-handed stitching, leaning my Qsnap against the dining table, and I do like it but for most of my stitching (done curled up in a comfy chair in the evenings) it just won't work

Re: John James twin pointed needles - sew faster??
I tried them and found that with the eye in the middle they tended to break easily, so gone back to my usual needles
Threadbear or Jilly I had never heard of piecemaker needles and would like to try them,
please can you tell me where you get yours from, thanks

You can get them from the Viking loom, but someone found a site that sells them cheaper. It's bookmarked on my 'dead' laptop though
, so until it gets fixed, I can't give it to you ... unless someone else remembers it
.
