Strategy for floss sale

Re: Strategy for floss sale
When I started out, I simply bought colours based on what I liked the look of. Once I had a collection and several repeat threads I started randomly buying numbers. I used to order from America and hong kong and buy a hundred threads at a time. Now I only buy what I need because I don't have any disposable cash. But when I get a job again I will go back to buying any missing numbers I have.

I'll tell you how I ended up with so much floss that i have the entire collection plus tons of extras especially ecru, white, and black. Was the walmart here decided to get rid of all their xstitch stuff so they had floss marked down to .10 so I bought 300 skeins and then every xmas I ask for gift cards to joanns which means i get over 100.00 worth of girft cards and then when joanns had a 4@1.00 sale i went hog wild. LOL!

I wanted to 1) thank the original poster for letting me know about this sale and 2) let you other ladies (and gents) know that it is also good for ordering online! (here is the url for the flyer here ) Anyway, I know that the ladies in the UK probably won't be able to use the sale but I thought perhaps they could have it shipped to a friends home in the US and sent to them in a care package? It is buy two get one free

Re: Strategy for floss sale
Well, I wound up getting 90 skeins, me twice and my sister in law once (had to take her for lunch, but I'm sure it was worth it!!) The first time thru I got carried away and just got blues and greens, then had to go to the car, mark it off my cheat sheet and figure out what I needed next time(s) thru. (fortunately had ecru, so just laughed myself past that!)
My SIL definitely did NOT understand!
Thanks to all!

Re: Strategy for floss sale
I've gone for collecting by numerical order. I know if I went by colour I'd just go for all the ones I liked rather than get a good selection, and probably ignore the ones I don't like.
So now, some I look at in my bobbin box and think 'I don't like that' but when it's used in a pattern it's probably going to be the perfect colour and I'll be glad I have it.

Re: Strategy for floss sale
Having been here for a few weeks now I must say I am getting all enthused about cross stitching again. I spent one evening this week listing all my bobbins of floss on the Anchor sheet. That was easy as they were in numerical order in the bobbin boxes. Then I sorted all my extra skeins and listed them on another sheet. I just sorted them in groups in baggies by beginning numbers. Then I filled in the missing bobbins but forgot to mark off the skeins used so I have to do that again. I think this time I will use more baggies and label the outside of the baggies as well. I also have a baggie of extra skeins that help relieve the clutter.
