Re: Sarah's Baby Afghan
Of course, Agi, as soon as the interfacing arrives I'll be applying it to the back of the squares I've stitched, so I'll post a couple of photos then.

I love it Sarah. I love the cat. (bit of a cat person myself)
I'm glad Agi asked if you could show us the back because I'm going to get back to my teddy bear afghan soon so I'll be glad on any ideas about backing it.

Re: Sarah's Baby Afghan
I finished the last two animals last night - bluebird and goldfish facing the opposite way from the original two.

And here's the whole thing again with all the animals on.

As soon as the interfacing arrives I will iron that on over the back of the stitched squares and then have a go at fringing the edges. Then all I will have to do is stitch the letters after the baby is born next month.
Edited 2 minutes later: what do you know - the post has just arrived and my interfacing is here! So it looks like I will be doing this later today or tomorrow.

Re: Sarah's Baby Afghan - Animals all done
Thank you everyone.
Mags, I noticed that out of the 12 animal charts, 6 faced one way and 6 the other, so it was perfect to arrange them all looking towards each other.
I have now cut out 20 squares from the interfacing (14 for the animals and 6 for the letters for when I do those) and I have ironed on the ones on the back of the animals. They came out perfectly. I chose light weight interfacing (I believe you can also get medium and heavy weight). I thought lightweight would not add to the weight of the afghan and make it thick in soem places and thin in others. With the light weight one, all the backs of the stitched areas are sealed nicely so they won't be damaged by washing or pulling, but you can still see the outline of each animal through it. I'm very pleased with the outcome. Here's what the back of one looks like.

It turned out to be lovely, Sarah. And the interfacing looks really neat, I think it is a very good idea. I don't know much about it, does it not fringe at the edges?

Re: Sarah's Baby Afghan - Animals all done
The edges will be fringed to complete it, I just haven't done that part yet. I might do it over the next week or two or I might wait until I have stitched the letters at the end of October and then do the fringing last, I can't quite make my mind up yet.

Beautiful afghan, Sarah!
I have an afghan waiting for me to stitch on it for my grandson. I still haven't decided what designs I will do since it is much smaller, I think.

Excellent stitching Sarah. The interfacing works really well.
I might have to nick your idea. Trouble is I'm not sure that it will work as well with my afghan because I don't think the back is a neat as yours!
