DMC Impressions or Zweigart marble/vintage effects

Post by *barb* »

Has anyone used DMC impressions fabric or the zweigart marble vintage effects fabric on snall projects such as bookmarks, gift boxes, biscornu ect?

I was just wondering if it was suitable for small stuff or is it only suitable for big stuff, as in do you see the print or is it spaced apart quite far?

I would like to try some but just not sure..so I am going to edit my stashmas wish topic

I have two lots of 14 ct marbled aida *barb* a beige one and a stone coloured one, I think. I can't decide what to use them for yet, but I got them both so that they are here when I do decide. When I do decide, I already know I want enough of the aida to show in the background so I can see the marbled effect along with my design. I had thought of trying a Biscornu with 14ct instead of 28ct in the marbled fabric..I think it would work well.

I bought a xmas stocking banner off ebay but it never arrived. i contacted the seller who had not been able to find a record of it being sent and so refunded my money. The seller I have bought from before, they had to go overseas due to family death and left daughter to do the orders and they think she made a mistake and put it in with someone elses order..someone who hasn't been decent enough to return it to the seller.

Anyway, they refunded my money into my paypal account and as there was nothing I want or need except my wish for this fabric, i found some on ebay last night and from UK and the exchange rate is so fantastic at the moment I ended up buying some marble and impressions fabric. I mean, who can go past a great exchange rate for something I really want.

with the exchange rate as it is, if I weren't so broke, I would would be doing serious stash shopping. The prices here are criminal. The net is my $$ saver.

Everything is at least 50% higher than in USA at a bad exchange rate. I got a kit for just under $10 including postage (which is equivalent to petrol and parking fees) and it is in the shop here for $26

I wanted some framecraft stuff a while back, I went to the local cross stitch shop and was shocked at the prices. i came home, found them on the net and the mark up worked out to 75%

I can see the local stitch shop going out of business.

It does make it hard to support your local shops when the prices are like that because it's natural that we all have to get the best deal we can for our money.
It's the same here for such as for example, threads, it's 3 times the prices at least to get them from the local shops compared to online.
Same for all stash though. Online has the best deals.

To get back to the original question, I have used the blue vintage Zweigart as part of a landscape project. It looked really good because of the suggestions of clouds in the sky (you have to really have a good look at the fabric and decide which way is UP!). I'm not sure I'd use these fabrics on biscornu, for instance, unless the design lends itself to the marbling effect. I'd be more inclined to save it for a design in which the fabric can become part of the whole thing rather than just the foundation of the thread (eg a Roman motif on a beige marbled fabric).

I've got some marbled/vintage Zweigart linen, and I like the effect but I dislike the fact that it's printed rather than dyed, so the effect is on the front only. A silly objection really because you don't see the back, but it just doesn't feel quite such high-quality as the hand-dyeds you get from Polstitches and Silkweaver and so on; but then of course they are a lot more expensive.
