Framing completed cross stitch??

Hi all, Ive nearly completed my 1st tatty teddy birth sampler!! and i was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on the best way to frame it so it looks good!! I asked in the craft shop and she said best way is to 'lace' it and rather than her explain to me she said its probably best for me to pay to get it framed!!! that sounds a little expensive to me...

Somewhere here there are various discussions about framing, use (or not) or glass, off-the-shelf frames, costs of framing and so on. If you can't find what you want, do ask!

I frame it myself and just stick the fabric onto the back of the backing board of the frame with masking tape.

I use self-adhesive boards (when I can get them large enough) and double-sided tape. Works for me! Sometimes I get frames custom made, but I refuse to pay too much for them. I buy a lot from Wilkinsons, who were recommended by another Xstitch group.

I too frame my projects myself. I use the peel & stick mounting boards by NeedleArt. Many times I can purchase them at Joann's with my 40% coupons. A couple of people I gave done projects to had them framed professionally though. Just depends on how much money you are willing to spend.

I'm another 'home framer'. My frames come from charity shops, although I have been known to splash out on a new frame when it's on sale.

I just finished my first haed and bought the mounting board havnt bought a frame for it yet and have been searching to learn how to do it myself i find that even though this is a small project it is still expensive.

I also frame most myself and I tend to use double sided tape to center the fabric in the matte. I usually just buy a standard size frame for the piece and go from there.

However, doing one at a time is best. I live overseas from the family so took all my stitched presents for Christmas to frame while there and buying everything at once makes it seem more expensive (mattes and frames) Professionally done is usually very expensive unless you've got a good local framer and takes much longer to get done.

If you get alot of them framed, it is worth trying to find a local framer who may consider a discount. I just took 3 large ones in, average 30 x 30 cm and it cost me $280 to get framed..for all three. When i pick them up i shall post them in my SAL thread, any day now.. I get a 20% discount.

that = about 160 pounds so just over 55 pounds each...but obviously everyone has a budget so for some this may be expensive. I also work an extra shift to pay for them as I am not flush with cash, unfortunately

Another trick is to get framed pictures that are fairly cheap, like at those shops(I am asuming you have them in UK) that sell dirt cheap stuff. Take the picture out and use the frame and glass...or try a junk shop for a cheap picture with a nice frame. Recycle is good and cheap.

Photo frames is another thing I use for smaller works, I use double sided tape with those, it''s impossible to lace with a photo frame cuase you end up having to go over the back of the frame backing board and it doesn''t sit flush..well thats what i found anyway, plus it looks yukky at the back.
