I've got the Margret Sherry 2007 astrocats calander and want to do about 9 of the 12 designs on one piece of fabric with some space in between each one.
The designs are roughly 9cm x 8cm
They all are fully coloured in each design, i.e full background is stitch so when the design is finished no fabric shows.
So, I was thinking of doing them on a coloured fabric but haven't decided which colur yet ( I am thinking pale yellow at this stage) but not sure how to calculate how much fabric and how much to leave between each design and how to lay them out...I was thinking 3 by 3 would probably be the best.
Any otgher ideas and advice most welcome!

3x3 certainly springs immediately to mind -- in fact so much so that I can't really think of a different layout! Unless you want to try and position them ina circle, or a cross shape -- a cross with one in the centre, and two each for the arms would work.
As for the fabric, do you mean you want to use a coloured fabric instead of the backsground which would otherwise be stitched? Or will the coloured fabric only be visible between the blocks? If you're using it as the background, the colour really depends on what will go with all nine designs.
For spacing, you could cut out 9 paper squares the size of the finished cat-blocks, put them on the fabric and see how much spacing you think looks best, and then chart it from there. that could also help you decide on the layout.
Looking forward to seeing this take shape!

the coloured fabric will only be visible between the patterns. I never thought about laying it out with finished size ordinary paper, shall try that I think so I dont mess my fabric up.
I was initally going to do them all separately but I think that will be silly as it means putting them in hoop frames and that takes up alot of wall space so I figured I would do it as kind of a sampler layout.

You could do them as a pyramid or could put them in the shape of a letter C
