I'm only on this forum. I used to be a member of a lady motorbike forum called Hells Kittens about a year ago, but I found I didn't have much in common with them - all they seemed to do was moan and whinge and swear. Then I joined the HAED forum a short while ago but was so shocked at how rude the moderators were that I withdrew myself quite quickly.

Good old Cross stitch forum, none can beat it.

Why do work days go so slowly and you spend all week counting off the hours until the weekend - and then when it gets to Friday night the weekend seems to last about 2 hours? :(

Because time flies when you're having fun!

Does English really need a combination of letters you can pronounce in six or seven different ways, and if so, why?

(in case you're wondering, it's -ough -- as in tough, though, through, bough, cough, hiccough [old spelling, admittedly) and lough [Irish version of loch, apparently], and I'm sure I forgot one or two)

Edited:
yes, there's slough, and (not in final position, but still the same combination) thought

Edited again:
and thorough

Yes it does! So native, monolingual speakers can feel clever... I wouldn't like to learn English as a foreign language (don't envy you Mabel!) wouldn't know where to start!!!

The real reason is because pronunciation evolves much quicker than spelling... which is why there are still strange letters hanging around like the "g" in night and the "k" in knee and knife, and the other spelling of knight!

Although from what I've seen, Celtic languages like Gaelic or Welsh have much stranger spellings!!!

Do you use fancy computer fonts or are you a Times New Roman kind of person? :D

More an Arial or Souvenir one, but usually quite plain. I use fancy fonts only when I design logos or headings, really.

And no need to feel sorry for me, I loved learning English (and I still love learning more about it) :-)

fruit jelly -- with bits of fruit in it, or "plain"?

I guess it would have to be the Chinese Chicken salad recipe that a friend of mine gave me about 15 years ago.

Why do we seem to have so many food related topics :D ? (Here on the question game and also in the Word Relation game we always seem to come back to food.)

I love them too. Can't wait to start singing them now.

And on the same theme - what's your favourite christmas carol? Mine changes lots but at the moment, I think it's Of the Father's Love Begotten.

Oh Little Town of Bethlehem, because it was the first one that I learnt the four-part harmonies to when I joined a choir here in England :-) -- everyone knew all the carols by heart, in harmony, but I had to learn all of them from scratch!

Do you sing in the shower/bath, and if so, what?

I suppose because after a while they don't mean anything anymore, they're just sounds -- and repetition does get people laughing!

humbug or pendibule?
