Pet Peeves

Post by Rose »

So what are some of the things that annoy you?????

People who don't listen to what youare saying and try to answer before you have finished. :x

People who try to one up you. You are telling a story and the person says oh yeah that happened to me but I .......... and it is just a little bit better then what you just said. :x

I'vealways lived by a Japanese rule of curtosy when it comes to timekeeping... If I arrive less than five minutes early, I'm already late...of course most people I go to meet believe in being fashionably late... So I'm sat there for about half an hour to an hour :P

Pet peeves.. ugh I could go on and on.

But the one that has topped my list for a while now is people unaware of how their actions (or in-activity) affect other people.

It could be the loud talker on their cell phone, chattering away so we all hear their personal business.
The store clerk that obviously does not want to be there and is just going through the motions with the empty greetings or fake smile, or no niceties at all.
Or the person driving too slow and you cannot get around them, blissfully unaware of the jam up they are creating behind them.
The neighbor that does not pick up after their pet has pottied on the sidewalk.

Poor table manners - I hate people talking with their mouth full or eating with their mouth open. Yuk! And leaning across you to reach the salt or the bread or something and not asking you to excuse them.

Lateness. I have, as far as I can remember, only been late once in my entire life and that was because the bus I was on caught fire. Yes, caught fire. I don't think there's any excuse for being late unless the transport you are on has a problem. This is a niggle with my other half because he's never on time for anything - he'll be late for his own funeral. If we ever go anywhere and we're expected at, say my parents' around 5pm for a meal, bearing in mind they live 45 minutes away, I have to tell him we need to set off around 3.45pm in order that we're on time because he doesn't think it's important. :x

And liars. This is the worst one. I've had my fair share of them in my life, including MY PARENTS. My Mum is constantly "don't tell Dad this, don't tell Dad that, don't tell him I bought the present you're giving him because you couldn't get to the shop that sells it, don't tell him, tell him this instead (even though it's not true), blah blah", it's not like he's an ogre, just a bit prehistoric and he has all these rules he tries to make everyone live by although he doesn't himself; and my ex-husband and my ex-boyfriend both quit smoking, supposedly, while I was with them and then continued having sneaky fags for weeks after and told me they hadn't, lying right to my face, assuming I couldn't smell them from 20 feet away. Liars bug the hell out of me, they're just gutless. If they say "yes, I did this, I'm sorry if you're annoyed" I'd be like, "It's ok, don't worry about it," because they owned up. GGRRRR! :x

Ooo, I tell you what annoys the crap out of me is relatives of patients at work who complain the doctor hasn't been, keep asking the same question, get snappy at the nurse because the doctor hasn't been ( you know, cause I can pull one out of my back pocket) and say how angry they are ect ect and when the doctor turns up are all sweet and chirpy. Once a relative screamed at a nurse at work (I was in charge) and said how bad the hospital was ect and how she was going to complain to the doctor about his poor service because he hadn't come and then when he came, i was in the room, i said to her ( after she had finished asking all her questions) "was there not something else you were going to mention to the doctor" and I gave her the evil eye look. That was a bit naughty of me but I had had enough that day.

Now, let me see...what else annoys me... :thinks: I am sure I shall return with more

People talking with there mouth full.

This one has just happened to me and its got right up my nose. I was standing in a que waiting to pay for my goods and there is a female in front of me talking on her mobile phone (in a normal voice) and then she turns round to me and says " do you mind this is a private call" my answer don't talk in public then and she says "this is my personal space please leave it".

Since when as a que been anybodys personal space.

Pen clickers

I was just in our Monday morning meeting with a pen clicker. It takes my focus away from the speaker and I cannot hear what is being said.

All of the above! ...LOL...honestly,

just remembered another one: those very close-up photograhps, usually of food, that don't give you an idea of what you're looking at. seems a lot of photographers like this way of showing a dish, doesn't matter you want to see the whole dish in a natural surrounding, like on a table, these people want you to see every drop of oil or condensation..LOL....I just think it's downright silly, and I usually end up skipping that recipe or pattern (I've seen those close-ups used for knitted and crocheted stuff, too) very annoying. to me, at least.... :ratherbe:

Bad drivers is seriously up at the top for me..we have the worst drivers here. No one uses their turn signal and when you try to merge into traffic on the highway, everyone speeds up just to not let you in. Every single day when me and the OH are out, we always encounter the dumb driver around here..I swear the other day, I actually saw someone stop in the middle of traffic and back their car up because they missed their turn. I spend many days just shaking my head!

Children with no manners...I was about to walk through a doorway and was less than 2 ft. from it and a child dashes in front of me and out the door without saying anything. The child was old enough to know better, he was at least 4 ft. tall.

Parents who don't watch their children....I was shopping and said parent was about 8 ft. away from a toddler who was no more than 2 yrs. old and she wasn't even looking at him and he was grabbing at stuff on the shelves. There were breakables in this store!

People who talk around the person they are addressing. Like a person that wants a wife to make a dish or present but instead of talking to the one doing the work they ask the husband even though the wife is right there listening to the conversation. Or when the person wants a kid to work for them, babysit or mow the lawn or some other project, and the kid is right there but they ask the parent if the kid will do the work. Hey if you want some one to work for you ask the person that will be doing the work not some one else. :x

Also people who talk about themself as if they are another person. I hate it when people talk in third person, so annoying.

Or kids that address there parents as if they are neighbor or friends. I think the words mom and dad are a sign of respect and so should be used by there children. Not Ruth and Sam or whatever the parents names are.

I agree with you Rose, I would never call my Mum by her first name, it would feel terribly disrespectful! In fact I address her using the polite form of you (Dutch, like German and French, has two "yous", a polite/formal one and an informal one). But I have friends who love and respect their parents yet call them by their first names and use the informal you :thinks: :thinks: ... I haven't quite worked my way out of that one, I just know it would sound very wrong to do it myself!

Where I come from people often talk about themselves in the second person -- so someone describing how she sprained her ankle and feared it was broken might say "so you slip and you feel your ankle going and immediately you are afraid that you've broken it" -- annoys me no end!

My biggest pet hate (it's more than a peeve) is people who make assumptions about me: for example, I was on a bus, on my own and there was a woman sitting in front of me. The bus drove past an advice centre for asylum seekers which had a queue outside. The woman in front of me started a completely irrational and bigoted rant about the people in the queue, using the most offensive language and ended it by seeking my approval. I told her (in no uncertain terms) to sit down and shut up. Just because I'm white and British doesn't mean I agree with racism and she should keep her filthy opinions to herself. She then accused me of being a "race traitor" and another phrase which is too offensive to write. This piece of trash ASSUMED that because I was of a similar race and nationality to her that I automatically agreed with her.
