Also people who talk about themself as if they are another person. I hate it when people talk in third person, so annoying.

I'm with you and Mabel Rose. It's annoying.

Or kids that address there parents as if they are neighbor or friends. I think the words mom and dad are a sign of respect and so should be used by there children. Not Ruth and Sam or whatever the parents names are.

There's no excuse for bad manners in children. Mine have to call my friends and their friends parents etc, etc 'Aunty' or 'Uncle' followed by their name. I think using first names alone to adults from children sounds really disrespectful. Now my eldest is almost 17, there are some who have asked him to use just their first name, but generally he wouldn't just do so.
I really don't like to see badly behaved children generally, but I also don't like seeing them screamed at by the parent either, because that's probably half the reason they behave badly anyhow. Parents who are oblivious to the kids behaviour are as bad though.

Lying. Once someones lied to you, you'll never be able to 100% trust what they say. Once someones been caught out in a lie it's hard to respect them, so lying's a big thing to deal with.

Oh and sniffing instead of blowing your nose when you have a cold, really gets to me.

I agree about showing respect for parents, I'd never call mine anything other than Mum and Dad. Except when I was little, my Mum always said if I was in a shop or somewhere where there were a lot of people and I became separated from her, I should yell "JULIE!" so that 20 women wouldn't be looking for the little voice shouting "Mum!"

People talking about themselves in anything other than the first person is annoying as well.

Gosh, when you think about it, there are so many pet peeves, aren't there?

Tailgaiters when you're driving. Don't the people with their nose right on your bumper realise that even when they're only doing 30mph, they have no hope of avoiding hitting you if you brake, unless they're more than 45 feet away from you?

And people reading maps and/or playing with satnav while they're driving. Boy, do I hate the invention of satnav! Three times now I've nearly been wiped out while on my motorbike by idiots looking at the satnav screen instead of the road and swerving sideways as I've been passing them in the next lane or on a roundabout where I have been turning right, already halfway around it and they suddenly join it from another exit and drive straight at you - because they're too busy looking at their directions to see a bright red and gold gleaming quarter of a tonne motorbike with an exhaust system that sounds like a pneumatic drill right next to their window.

And one other thing that I find shocking, given their generation - the rudeness of some old people. I've always been taught that if you're coming IN through a door (like of a shop) you should stand back and let people come OUT first, but the amount of times old people have barged their way in, when I'm coming out, practically knocking my bag out of my hand and then given me a dirty look as if I'M the one with no manners.

I can't remember, did someone mention people talking throughout a movie? When you're in a public theatre I'm super annoyed! But if you're at home in a relaxed setting, I can understand..but in public I want silence!

I couldn't agree more about the satnav explosion. I fail to see the difference between drivers taking their eyes off the road to consult/put info into their satnavs and drivers talking to /calling people on their mobile phones.Both very dangerous...one totally illegal and one perfectly legal!!!!!!

Just realived I had another peeve and I am guilty of some but for the most part not.

Text abbreviations being used in everyday life. I can understand wanting to use the least amount of letters on a phone when texting but when you are typing a letter or message to e-mail or something like that spell the word and spell it correctly. I hate getting a message that says gr8 or brb or some others. I have a niece that sends stuff that is full of abbreviations. Half the stuff she is writing I don't even get. I need someone else to translate for me. I have found myself using some of the very popular ones like OMG but most of the time I write it out

- Bad, dangerous or ignorant drivers.
- Inconsiderate or downright rude actions.
- Stubborn, badly behaved children.
- General litter, even when there's plenty of rubbish bins available.
- Pet owners who don't clean up after their dogs etc.
- Market researchers, either on the phone, or in person.
- Pushy sales staff descending on you in a shop, or ignorant sales staff who don't help, even when you specifically ask them to.


I could continue, but I think I'd just make myself even more frustrated and annoyed

Bad drivers along with lots of people here (though I will confess to having occasionally been map/direction reading whilst driving. I don't have sat nav and I do do my best to mark out the route in advance and try and memorise the directions, but on a long trip on my own somewhere I haven't been before it just isn't possible sometimes and I just have to take the odd quick look at the map).

Bad manners in all generations. This starts when young and just carries on. I can't believe the lack of respect shown by younger people to those older/pregnant/carrying heavy shopping etc, which is quite ironic given that these very same younger people go round demanding "respect" is shown to them. The inability of people to say "sorry", "pardon", "excuse me" or "thank you" is also quite remarkable.

Slow people! I think this is a London thing, or a tourist centre thing, but I get infuriated by groups of people who string out 4 to 5 abreast across the whole pavement and then stop dead forcing anyone else trying to walk to the station to step out into the road to get round them. And they then look at you blankly as if they can't see what the problem is - sure just try and get me killed by the big red bus why don't you

Bad spelling and grammar - very frustrating on public signs and infuriating in newspapers. These are people who have a job which involves using language and they don't seem to care whether they get it right or wrong. Also the general inability of people (who have no particular learning difficulty or condition that affects this) to spell and use grammar correctly and rely on computers all the time for everything.

I agree with what Tia said about parents who don't watch their children. It drives me absolutely mental and seems to happen every time I go out, there'll be a (quite small!) child wandering along on their own, no indication of who they actually belong to - i.e. no worried parents looking around etc. We were in a cafe recently and there were a group of about 4 mums sat at a table chatting, at least 8 kids between them, all under the age of 6, running around creating havoc, up & down stairs etc, climbing on benches including onto the table next to us. The tables were glass topped so surely they could have easily gone through if they'd fallen onto one (or am I just being strange and paranoid thinking that unsupervised young children might actually hurt themselves...?!) And I bet if the kid nearest to us had hurt himself, his mother would have expected us to catch him/pick him up etc.

Same thing where parents let their kids sit where they want on the bus and don't sit with them!!! There are kidnappers in this world! Do they not care?!?

Cold calls are often unwelcome or badly timed or intrusive anyway (and by definition always unsolicited), but the rudeness of not even bothering to have them made by a real person really gets me! As though they're saying, we want to make demands on your time but we are not going to spend our own time on doing it! GGGRRRRRR

Rose, I completely agree about the text-speak, it bugs the hell out of me too. Some people even say "lol" when they are talking. Most of it I don't understand and don't particularly want to.

Any companies that have automated phone systems.... "dial 1 for this, dial 2 for that.." and so on. Do you know, I phoned the DVLA for some information a few weeks back and I spent FORTY MINUTES negotiating the push button system, I NEVER got to speak to a human being and I didn't get the information I wanted. That's just rubbish.

Also, companies employing people to answer their phones who can't speak English. One time I had a problem with my computer and rang the supposed helpline - it took me about 10 minutes and repeated spelling out loud just to get them to understand my name and my post code before I even started on the problem. At £1.50 a minute that is absolutely infuriating. They probably do it on purpose so they can make £50 out of you every time you call.

Also cold calls where they keep asking the same things over and over again - I think I've been rung about 4 times on the same insurance issue by the same company. If I said no the first 3 times, I'm unlikely to say yes the 4th time, so STOP RINGING ME!!!!! Also the idiotic companies that can't seem to record some simple data such as I no longer have a contract with you! I swear it's taken me over 5 years to establish with mobile phone company X that I left them several years ago for mobile phone company Y so it's really very unlikely that I want to upgrade my phone with X.

And finally on the subject of telephone calls, the companies that refuse to deal with you because you're not the named person on the contract, even when all you're trying to do is register a complaint. I can understand not letting anyone except the named person make changes to the account, but refusing to speak to me at all because my husband is named on the contract, not me? Even when this means that the service will remain broken until my husband has the time to ring them? I think they need to go back and read their customer service manuals!

Has anyone watched Fonejacker (Channel 4 I think?) - FULL of characters exactly like the phone ones everyone's described on here, very funny especially for those of us who've been in those situations!

The best one I had was a completely automated Travel Lodge (or one of those places) where I was speaking to a machine which (supposedly) has voice recognition. It kept thinking "Middlesbrough" was "Manchester Airport" or "Edinburgh"... in the end I gave up & had to go on hold to speak to a real person

I get the automated ones at work as well as people who can't speak English... I can usually get rid of them quite well

When someone joins a forum then puts a request for a chart in the wanted section, the chart is sent out to them and they don't even acknowledge that they've received it.A thank you would be nice.

That's interesting to me Sarah because I have always been taught that whichever way the door swings to should be the one to hold the door open and wait for the other person, not neccessarily based on the "in/out" method.

One thing I really find annoying that I haven't seen yet is when you are watching TV/movie/etc with someone who won't stop talking. Then when something really interesting happens they say "What did he say, I missed it". I always think, "No kidding, so did I because someone won't be quiet.", LOL. Or, even worse is when you are watching something with someone who has already seen the show and keeps telling you "Oh, this is a good part, watch this". I think "Really, thanks for the warning because I was about to decide to get up and start dusting, glad you warned me or I might have cleaned your house and miss it...oh, wait, I did miss it because someone was talking again, LOL." Needless to say, I have a sister who won't stop talking!!!

Lonely car parkers! Sometimes I drive a larger car than I am usually used to and so I pick a space to park in that has no other cars next to it, making it easier to get in and out of. I come back and low and behold I'm hemmed in on all sides - while the rest of the *@##~$ car park is empty! Do these people own cars that have some kind of loneliness complex? I just don't get it.

I just read this whole thread and agree with all of them! I must hate everyone.

My biggest pet peeves though:

* Lateness. Though I'm another with a husband who will be late to his own funeral. The only thing he's ever been early for was our wedding, because I told him we were locking the gate and he wouldn't be allowed in if he were late.

* Food noises. Fingernails on a blackboard to me. Damn, people, close your mouths when you chew! Also, people who crack gum should be hung up by their toenails.
