Sarah's Christmas Holiday Projects

Post by Sarah Gixxer »

I'm going to use this thread for all the small projects I'm hoping to do over the Christmas break. Weather permitting, OH will be arriving at my place this afternoon and then we'll be going down to his tomorrow until Boxing Day, so I'm taking various small projects to do. I'll have loads of stitching time on Christmas Eve as OH has to work and then he has to fetch his brother who lives 30 miles away and will be staying at his Mum's flat.

So, the projects I'm taking with me are the Lanarte miniature tiger and lion I received in my stashmas gift. Also a purplework biscornu using dyed lilac fabric, 2 shades of purple floss and a free download blackwork chart and I intend to stuff the biscornu with lavender scented stuffing and attach a ribbon to hang it on my clothes rail. Lastly I'll be taking my new Hardangar supplies and experimenting.

I should have some pictures on Christmas Eve!

Looking forward to seeing updates on your Christmas projects Sarah - I love the smelly biscornu idea!!

I really enjoy doing projects at special times - then when I look at them I'm reminded of that holiday. Over Christmas I'm hoping to work on (complete??) a little Damask Rose needlebook kit I got recently.

That's a lovely needlebook, Susan, that's something I could do with myself actually. Think I'll have to add one of those to my wishlist, there are lots of lovely ones to choose from on that website.

When I read the title of the thread I thought "she's starting her Christmas gift projects NOW?" But then I realized that it was you Sarah and if anyone could crank out some xmas gifts and get them finished in time it would be you. Then I read your posts and realized it's the projects you're going to do over the xmas holiday. My brain is not fully engaged yet today. I think your ideas and projects are wonderful.

Well, I managed to make a good start on these today (Christmas Eve). OH had to work from 8am - 3pm and then had to go and pick his brother up and take him to his mother's (2 hour round trip) so I got lots of stitching done.

I started with the purplework biscornu - my pictures aren't brilliant as the light in OH's house is terrible - those awful energy saver bulbs everywhere. :( At least during daylight hours I could see to stitch though!

Here's my stitchy stuff for the biscornu:-
Image

I'm using Anchor 97 and 101 on dyed lilac fabric. Here's the first picture with part of the design done:-

And the first half of the biscornu finished:-

I intend to do the other side with the same design, but reverse the two colours with the exception of the border.

Then I decided to start on the Lanarte miniature lion and managed to get nearly all the actual lion done - I just need to do his legs and tail and the border.

Lovely and speedy work. Light is always an issue it seems when I am not at home. I purchased an Ott travel light at a fabulous price and when I pack stitching I also pack it. Has solved a lot of problems for me.

I completed the other side of the biscornu - I'm not going to start sewing the two pieces together yet though as I need to get hold of some lavender first in the New Year. Here's a pic of the two pieces though.

The lion is almost finished now, I just have his tail and about a quarter of the border to do so I'll finish that today. Then next I will try some Hardangar!
