Hi Carolh,
I suspect the best needles would be sharp pointed thin ones like Crewel needles as the fabric is so fine.
I am sure someone with experience of the type of work you are doing will be along later.
Enjoy the forum and please keep us up to date with your progress.

Hi and welcome from a snowy West of Scotland wonderland.

Generally with cross-stitch a blunt needle is used. However, if you fabric is really as fine as percale, you would be better off with a sharp. Have a really good read of the instructions before you begin because there may be a clue there. You may also find helpful advice from the place you bought the design.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on with it. Sounds adventurous. :)

Welcome to the forum. I hope that we can give you some help with your stitching.

You said that you bought a quilt and all the floss that you will need. I think that that means you bought a stamped kit. In the instructions there should some were be a list of items needed to complete the project. What does it sayin there? Does it just say needle or does it say embroidery needle? I think some one said that you could also ask the people that you bought it from that is a great suggestion and also if you have a LNS you can take the stuff in there and they will help you pick the proper needle.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror

Hi Carolh and welcome.

As others have said, I would think a sharp needle for percale. I have never done any stamped cross stitch - always counted. I think they are quite different.

Good luck with your project.

Hi, thankyou all for your replies, this wasn't bought as a kit, floss and fabric was bought separately. Its a bit hard to ask where i bought it as i saw it in a store while on holiday, not sure where now and there's nothing about needles. So i'm happy to try the crewel needles, i've bought size 7 and 9, i'm not sure if they are finer the higher the number or low so got both :D

thanx again for all your help carolh

Hi Carolh,
On percale I would think a sharp is appropriate. I believe that is what I used on a stamped piece early on. As for size, that will be dependent on the number of floss you are using. Basically I would say if it fits comfortably and doesn't squeeze the thread but the thread doesn't slip out it should be fine.

Welcome aboard. Great place and lots of wonderful people!
