HAED Pandora by Marta Dahlig - PIC UPDATE: 8th Jan 10

Post by scarlett »

Hi everyone.

I became a member here last July with every intention to stitch but life got in the way and my stitching suffered. But I have decided to pick up my needle again, especially when I saw the HAED website and all the amazing designs on there.

I got a bit of xmas gift money so thought I would treat myself to a design and kit it up fully. I chose Pandora by Dahlig. The artwork is amazing, and I love the mythology of Pandora and so just had to choose her to stitch.

I started her last night as we weren't doing anything for new years as we have heavy snow here so we had a cosy night in, me stitching and my husband on the PC online gaming. Anyway, I am starting on page 1 and have around 400 stitches of pure black done, so not much to see yet. There is a lot of black in this design, a lot more than I thought and calls for 35 skeins roughly - eeekkk!!

Hopefully I shall have a pic soon, but this first page is mostly black so not that exciting!

It's really beautiful, and well done for doing all that black. I have to say, if I were you, I would have been too lazy to stitch all that black and would have chosen black fabric instead

 I saw this one yesterday and fell in love with it! What a great choice! It is indeed gorgeous. I had no idea it would call for so much black as well

Hi all!

I have to admit I was a little disappointed it used so much black, as in the design it looks more brown and detailed. I would've thought there would have been more detail in the background and dress but there is a ton of black there instead. Not that I'm complaining, I'm sure it will stitch up beautifully, I gotta have faith :)

What a great idea stitching on black fabric, not something I'd thought of, but I bet it's really hard to see the little holes with such fine fabric.

Oh yeah, I'm stitching this on 25 count lugana 1x1 full crosses, it shall probably take me years as she is approx 18 x 21.5 inches when complete (stitch count 450x578)

I think I may need tons of encouragement, but being in love with the art should hopefully get me through :)

This is such a lovely picture. Her face is beautiful and the way the light shines out of the box is wonderful. Don't worry about all the black. Heaven and Earth seem to have a way of making pictures fantastic even though when you are sewing them you sometimes feel doubtful about what you are doing.

Enjoy the black, when you get to a confetti heavy area you will be really glad of the black areas!

I've been stitching all day on this, DH at work afternoon and most of the night, so got lots of stitching time in. I have over 1000 stitches done, mostly black but have been stitching a little bit of red also. The pattern really intrigues me on how it'll start to look like the artwork as I get more and more done. I can't wait to get to some detail!

It's beautiful! A real challenge to stitch, I'm sure, with all that black though but you will do it and like everyone here I'll be looking forward to watching it's progress too! Well done for taking it on, it's a really stunning design. :)
