Stitching Basket

Post by SusanF »

We've got a new long term project started this week at stitching club - a Stitching Basket. As well as making the basket look good, we'll be adding in all sorts of stitchy goodies. We've started this week with a fan shaped floss keeper. Here's how far I got on Tuesday:

and after my lovely snowday stitching morning today, I've finished all the stitching:

As usual, I'm not quite sure how the finishing works. I've got a fan-shaped template, wadding and some fabric - just need to figure out how to put them all together now :? :?

I love the thread as well! The varying of the colors catch the bold color of the flower pot and make them work so well together...or at least I think so :D

The thread for the petals is Chameleon Rayon in Black Berry - it was really lovely to work with too

Louise, I made the floss keeper below for Kell's Stashmas present - they are fun to make, although the rings can be quite hard to find as not many places seem to stock them.

The project sounds lovely. I'm curious to see what it involves overall.

Like Louise, I'd never heard of a floss keeper, so the picture is very useful. On the rings, Sew and So stocks them and I get from them regularly as I use them for organising my floss away bags.

Beautiful stitching. :applesauce:

A stationary/office supply store stocks the rings as well. I use metal shower curtain hooks for my floss rings if I decide to use them, pack of about a dozen for a couple of dollars. Now that is a hardware store find where the rods are sold.

I'm currently using my floss keeper from SusanF for my ABC afghan - it's a gorgeous little thing and it makes me smile every time I see it. : (Thanks Susan!).

I think I'd like to try making one of those but I'm not sure where to source the rings from...

A fan-shaped floss holder -- sounds intriguing! I wasn't quite sure what a floss holder was  . How do you use it if all your floss is on bobbins?

The flowers are such fun, like those you see on traditional samplers.

Kell I eventually got them on eBay from The Corner Rounder by searching for binder rings - turns out the company I got them from is only 10 minutes drive away from me  As I rather over-optimistically bought 30 of them  would you like me to send you a few to try?

Mabel there's a photo of one of these with bobbins here and some lovely examples of floss tags here.

This looks fabulous Susan, I can't wait to see how it progresses into the fan shaped holder.

Lovely little flower pattern Susan, I shall be interested to see how this stitches together. And love the floss keeper, that's an new idea to me.

At last I've actually finished something   :D :D :D :D Here is my completed floss keeper and the first thing to go in my stitching basket (which hasn't actually been made yet - of course  )

And here's a little teaser for the next item we are making to be tucked into the non-existent basket

I'll hopefully have an update for this one in a few days.
