Which fabric to use with no fractional stitches?

Post by alinna »

Contemplating a new start for a project that has no fractional stitches but some backstitch and is fairly large (about 350x150). I've done most of my projects on aida except for Cirque des Cercles and my HAED. One thing I don't really like about aida is how stiff it is, but it is much easier on the eyes to count and grid with the fabric pen. How do you decide what fabric to use? Would be stitching over 1 on aida and over 2 if not.

Edit: forgot to add that I'd probably do it on 16ct if using aida. The equivalent would be 32ct, and 28ct so far on CdC already seems pretty small to me...

Did you know that the main reason Aida is stiff is because companies starch it? If you don't like the stiffness, wash it before using it.

It really is a personal preferance. If you want to use aida then yes do wash it first as it will they be much more flexible. If you want a different finish then eavenweave is a good choice.

I agree with Rose, it is all about what YOU prefer when you are stitching. I personally prefer the feel and the finished look of evenweaves, but stitch on Aida sometimes when all the fabric will be covered.

I like evenweave fabric more and more as I use it, but a 32ct project sounds pretty daunting for my eyes, and I don't really want to get a magnifier. I guess I'll try washing the aida and see if I can be happy with the feel, since 16ct aida is no problem for me at all.
