Thanks, Lisa... I am not sure. What I saw looked different, but it may be the same thing. I will try and find other solutions first.
Actually, I do have an idea now, but will show you only if it works

The style and the colouring are so well-chosen for this!

I wouldn't use Algerian eyelets for this, I think the metal would rub to much on the smallish holes, but why not make a buttonhole stitch square hole? Normally for a buttonhole you'd have two lines of buttonhole stitch facing each other and a cut line between them, but there's no reason why you shouldn't make a square and then cut it. I'd use some strong, thick sewing thread in a suitable shade rather than stranded cotton though, as it will get quite a bit of wear.

The stitching is wonderful Agi and I'm sure they'll look great in your book.
Am interested to kknow how you get on with your eyelets and whether they do the job for you.

Next page is done:

This is not really a poem, just some lines from a folk song that we sing with the choir - it is so beautiful, and so sad.

The patterns come from different Hungarian folk art books, the black ones are motifs from mourning kerchiefs.

The text says something like this:

"In the green forest, on the grean medow, there is a bird walking, oh, how beautifully! Calling me, and I am coming with him. There is no one to keep me here."

Before that I never thought about it, but now, as I was stitching, I realized that the bird in the song is probably the symbol of death - this is a song about someone who lost his/her love...

Now, I will have to try and put it all together.

I have promised two really good friends of mine  that the next one is going to be something much more cheerful, so I promptly ordered a spring chart from Sew and so. :) - now looking for a lovely spring poem or song to stitch with it.

I think the poem is beautiful. Death isn't always meant to be sad, and I don't take that poem to be sad at all... or am I just weird?

How on earth did I manage to miss this thread till now??? What a beautiful project. I cannot express how much in awe I am of your skill. This is just lovely on every level and truly something to keep as an heirloom to pass down through your family for generations to come - perhaps with future generations adding to it. Just... WOW!
