Stitch N Tear Help!!!!

Post by destructiveernie »

I am about to start an Afghan blanket and the instructions say to back each square with Stitch N Tear.

Is there an easy way of attaching it as tacking it on to the back of all 30 squares is going to take ages!!!

How exactly does it work? Does it stay there after you've finished the stitching? Can you remove the tacking stitches if the show through?

Couldn't I just pin it in place and then would the Cross stitch itself hold it in place?

Sorry for all the questions but haven't a clue!!! :(

I have just completed an afghan which said to back with stitch and tear. Instead of backing each individual square I did for the whole afghan. When the squares were stitched I removed the stitch and tear. I did this a bit at a time, I fineshed half the afghan andd then removed the first two rows and then stitched the next row and then removed a row.
The only problem I found you needed to be carefull when pulling off around stitches if you pulled to hard it tugged the stitches, but on the whole I found it not to bad.
Using the backing does give your stitching greater stability and in some respects makes it easier to stitch the afghan fabric.

Hope this helps

Thanks Maggs,

Confession!!! It is actually the same Afghan pattern that you did!! I saw it just as I was trying to decide what pattern to do on an Afghan and fell in love with it.

Did you just tack the stitch n tear around the edge of the stitch n tear or through the middle aswell?

Emma.

Emma
I stitched it around the edges and diagonally, but the were stitches about an inch long so not particular tidy, just enough to hold it in place when I was stitching.

If you have any more questions please ask

Thanks Maggs, much appreciated.

Just about to cut the fabric to the 5 by 6 and put the stitch n tear on the first four blocks to get me started!!!!

Wish me luck, I have 25 weeks in which to do it, think I might be a little busy after that with the baby that the blanket will be for!!!!

Emma good luck with it. I know 25 weeks seems a long time but you will be surprised how quick it goes and how long some of the squares take to stitch.

Good luck any other advice please ask.
