Is it possible to calculate how much floss I need? I know how many stitches of each
color is needed and I have a count of Aida cloth(8). Is there a formula for that?
Thanks for your help!

you can never have too much floss...
lol but you mean for a specific design...

a long formula to calculate the amount needed.
Not sure how acurate this stie is...but here is a chart.

and a third site scroll downt the the cross stitch area.

Re: How much floss do I need?
It's very hard to say as so much depends on your design, the fabric you are using and how you stitch - for example if you always do full crosses before moving to the next stitch you'll end up using slightly more floss than if you do half crosses and go back over them to complete the cross. A lower count fabric will use more floss - eg 14 ct uses more than 18ct for the same design. Also if you're stitching with 3 strands you'll use more than 2 strands. If you've got sections of half crosses in your design this will also affect it.
Ultimately if you really want a precise amount of floss for you, the best way is to take a set length of thread (say 50cm) in the number of strands you will be using and stitch a row of stitches on your fabric until you run out of thread. That will give you an idea of how much floss you use and since you have the stitch count for your colours, you can work out length.
I've found a lot of charts will have a guide to the amount of floss needed. Otherwise, if I'm buying for a project I'll just buy one skein of each colour I don't have since that's the minimum I can buy and perhaps two or more if the chart obviously has large areas of a particular colour. Any I don't use just goes into my stash for new projects
Also with the ebay sellers and sew and so, if I look like I'm going to run out mid-project, I'm never more than 24 hrs away from new floss

Re: How much floss do I need?
This may not be of much help if you're using aida, but from my many HAED designs I've worked out that they estimate to get around 3,600 stitches per skein with their recommended 25 count... So I use the figure 3,500 when I'm working amounts out for myself. Having said that, I've had at least one experience where I used at least 3 times as much as they said I needed - just depends on how much confetti-style stitching there is to carry thread over I guess
