Quiltmaker by Lavender & Lace - Mary Lou's WIP

I began The Quiltmaker about a week ago. Actually I started it a couple of weeks ago, but first picked a khaki colored fabric, decided it was too drab, and tossed it! This version is on a light oatmeal fiddler's cloth, 16 count aida. I really couldn't find exactly what I wanted in count and color; it is so hard to select fabrics online.
I hope my love of the pattern will sustain me, as I am already finding the miles of blue skirt somwhat daunting! It calls for 5 skeins of 823 (navy blue) plus 3 skeins of 939 (dark navy blue), plus 3 skeins of 3750 (medium navy), and black and a couple of shades of dark teal. Anyway, LOTS of dark blue!
I've fretted a bit about the coverage of the dark colors. Tried a sample with 3 strands and it seemed too bulky. I keep reminding myself that from a normal viewing distance it looks fine, although right under my nose I see the fabric peeking through. Am stitching with less tension than usual and using shorted strands, but still not completely happy with it!
I had not used a grid before, but on this one it is a must, with all the alternating and scattered stitches of similar shades of blue.

This is a beautiful one. Years ago I did the Sweet dreams one for a friend. Unfortunately it was before I took pictures of all my works. But it was a joy to stitch. I hope you have as much fun as I did.

I think it looks great. With all those blues it might get a little boring but it will go fast because you won't have to change colors so much.

The shading in the skirt is lovely but I can imagine it's quite a challenge! Great design though, and you'll just have to do some mini projects in between to keep you enthusiastic!

This is a very charming design. Those colors are exactly the ones I needed for my HAED's sky and it did get a bit dull after while lol.
