Flour Sack Towels

At a rummage sale this weekend, I picked up a few iron on designs I plan on putting onto flour sack towels and embroidering. I have never done this before but thought I would give it a go.

What type of threads work best for this? I am thinking maybe pearl cotton but I have no idea. I want something a little more durable than regular 6 stranded floss.. but maybe 3 strands of floss is more durable than I think. Or another type of thread?

When I do this type of stitching I always use DMC 6 strand but that is just me I am a DMC fan.

Hi! My advice would be - if the weave of the fabric is quite large, then a Perle would be great. Perle numbers go from the thinnest at 12 to the fattest at 3, with 8 and 5 in between those! This thread has a slight luster which may diminish with washing unlike 6 strands of stranded cotton, but then single strands of s/c may snag if the towels see heavy usage! hope this helps ; sounds a wonderful project and even better when things are recycled!
