My mom's tapestry - FINISHED!!!!!!! And now framed, too!

Post by Fljotsdale »

... which I promised to finish for her. It's been over 10 years and still not completed. Mom had done a bit more than half of it; I have completed all the gross point, and some of the petit point, but still have several faces, hands and arms to do in petit point. I don't like doing petit point, and the tapestry isn't a subject that appeals to me, which is why it isn't done yet - BUT I now need the stand for my cross stitch, so I have to complete it!

Image

This looks done, but isn't

Image

This is it taken against the light, so you can see the unstitched bits. 7 heads and some hands/arms

As soon as I've finished my Napping Kitten cross stitch, which is about 3 parts done, I will be working on this again.

I hope you can finish it soon and find some enjoyment in it, anyway. I like it...

Sorry, dollystitcher - only just noticed your question! It's 33" x 17" (84cm x 43 1/2cm).

I'll be starting on those faces and hands sometime next week, hopefully. I want it done and done with! :)

Okay so when I was first looking at it...I had not scrolled to see the pic with the unstitched part...I just saw the pic that like you said did look done...I kept looking and even got closer to my monitor to see where the white dress person's head had gone...then as I scrolled I realized...I do believe it is bedtime for me!

Yes, I can see what you mean about the head of the girl in the white dress! She actually has her face in her hands; the head isn't mising! And the pink bit at the top is flowers on a bonnet, not a severed neck! But it does rather look like like a headless ghost, doesn't it?

What an interesting project, and for a tapestry there's lots of detail! Looks like there's not much left to do, and it'll feel a great achievement once finished! :applesauce:

Found out yesterday that I am short of some colours. And they are OLD colours. The orignals were Anchor, but mom had used some dmc threads, also OLD colours, and I have been trying to match up from a bundle of mixed Anchor/DMC wools, but was still some short. Cut a boring story short - I've just ordered equivalent new Anchor wools and hope they don't stand out too much...
But, I can't start in on the tapestry until they come, so I might just start a little xstitch while I'm waiting.

I'm amazed at the detail in it for a tapestry, so I can see why your mum wanted it completed. It's quite a picture!
Have you got any plans for it once it's done?

I'm glad you showed the 2nd picture as I was having a problem trying to work out the unfinished parts.
You're so nearly there now! :applesauce: :applesauce:

Yes... I set it up to start on it early this evening, and my damn daylight lamp bulb died on me and it was a new one, too. I'm peeved. I've had my fill of that darn magnifier/lamp. I only got it repaired recently. :x
Anyway, that decided me. I've ordered a little clip-on LED lamp/magnifier that doesn't need replacement bulbs. Only cost £20 something. Only prob is it uses 3 AAA batteries, not mains, so I'm a bit worried how many batteries I shall need to stash...
I WAS thinking of a mains floor-standing LED magnifier/lamp - then I spotted the price. A mere £90+.

You can buy those rechargable batteries and a charger, so then you won't have to worry about buying new batteries all the time.

My thoughts were the same, Agi... Looks like rechargable batteries would be the better way to go..
