The healing powers of stitching.

Post by *barb* »

I am not going to go into too much detail here, but basically because of my epilepsy I am off work.

I have had a rough week with it and have found myself thinking "" why me"" ect, crying, feeling ashamed i am not normal like the other girls at work (sorry, i cant help the way i feel about it  ), thinking i am useless at my job, ect..you know, beating myself up good and proper

Anyway, i ended up playing with my stash and started European Bistro and a Country Companions one.

I started European Bistro because it needed some slowness, and oh boy, i was slow but you know, it made me so much more relaxed and made me snap out of the blues and now i feel more alive i have put it down and started the little country companions because it is so cheery.

I am so glad i have this lovely hobby to be able to use in a healing type of way.

I cant do more than an hour or two without getting drowsy and mr :anotherfrog: coming along, but it''s okay because in the end, i can get to the end of the day and still have acomplished something even though i cant work at the moment.

Tomorrow will be another stitch, sleep, stitch, sleep day and then on Tuesday i go back to the doctor to see if he can do something so i can get better quicker and go back to work.

I'm sorry you're having a bad time :( and I hope your doctor can help you to feel better. I don't have any major health problems, but I know when I'm worried or feeling stressed, just quietly sitting and stitching helps me SO much.

I'm SO with you Barb, and so sorry things are going squirely for you right now - I hope the doc can sort you out and your meds and get you feeling so much better.

I also don't work cos of a stupid neurological stupidness - I've also had a bad week, I have electrodes in my brain and they were adjusted on Wed, but it went wrong and I was all slow and weird and wrong - so got rushed back in to hospital on Sat and its been adjusted back, and I am feeling a lot better though still strange. The worst was that I couldn't stitch well!!! And when we went to the hospital, I didn't take any thing with me in case they kept me in (they didn't!) than my stitching!!!

Its a wonderful thing to do - I use it as a distraction from pain, and I'd never considered the stress-busting elements of it, and you are so right and I've been getting the benefits of it for so long without knowing!! So thank you for giving me something else to be thankful about!

I use stitching as a stress reducer. I find it relaxing and soothing. That is as long as :ribbit: stays away.

I am sorry to hear that the health issues are giving you such a bad time. It really sucks when you want to be productive and your body just won't cooperate.

My stitching has helped me through many bad and good times. It is the friend that is always there no matter my mood. I am glad you have your stitching to comfort you.

Barb, your condition is not your fault so stop beating yourself up about it. Dare I say it, that is an order (My management and military training coming to the fore there).

Hopefully your Doctor can do something to help and it is good that the stitching is helping. It is very therapeutic as I well know. Keep smiling. :)

Stitching has helped me cope with my arthritic pain for years so I know how beneficial it can be

I am so sorry to hear you are having a bad time with your epilepsy, and as two of my daughters and a grand-daughter are fellow sufferers I can empathise. I do hope the Doctor can regulate your meds so that you can cope easier.

There are many of us on this forum who enjoy the healing benefits of stitching, me included. I have had a serious episode of depression, couldn't work for more than 3 months, now I am better but still not really well, and still on medication. And I know that without stitching, and also without my friends, many of whom are on this forum, I wouldn't have been able to get over the most difficult times.

Barb, dear, I also know how we can blame ourselves for our conditions, but you must keep in mind that it is not your fault. Be kind to yourself. :)
I really hope you can get better soon.

Hope you are feeling a bit better with all the wishes from everyone here? Big hug from me, I too thank my stitching every day, I have M.E. and stitching saved my sanity, it takes my mind off the pain and I relax but most of all I feel happy when I am stitching, yes stitching is a great healer in all sorts of ways, spread the word, it does work. Barb, please don't beat yourself up, it isn't your fault, you are trying to make it better, you can't do much more, other than stitch of course!

Barb I am sooo sorry that it has been such a cow of a week for you but sooooo glad you turned to your stitching.

Guess you will be waking up around now, so do have a good breakfast and hopefully the day will go better than yesterday for you. Hopefully the doc can get you sorted out real quick and then you are back at work again.

Feel free to email me and vent any time, I am always here for you.

I'm sorry you're feeling so rotten at the moment, but glad to hear that sticthing is helping! Isn't it a wonderful hobby? Relaxing, crative, gives you a sense of achievement -- it's practically therapy and should be available on the NHS! (Do you think they'd allow people to claim for fabric and threads instead of painkillers or the like :-)?)

I, too, am sorry you are having such a rough time of it. We all know that it isn't your fault and that if you could be at work you would be.

Stitching has been a lifeline for me for the last coulple of years. I honestly don't know what I'd have done without it during the painful episodes where I can't do much else.

Best wishes that the doc will get things sorted for you.
