Stitchers - How Old Are You? (POLL)

Post by spiffilifikal »

So, I am a newbie to stitching..
and my boyfriend jokes around saying I'm like an old lady because I stitch...
I am 25, and I hope I will be able to prove to him there are stitchers out there of every age.
LET'S PROVE HIM WRONG! :)

I am 32 and have been stitching on and off since I was 12-13. I call stitching my old lady hobby.. and I hope to still be stitching when I am an old lady.

I am 38, but I started stitching when I was 20. I don't think it's an old lady's hobby. I knit too, which my Mum taught me to do when I was 4 years old, with fat old needles and short lengths of bright coloured wools. I don't think of that as old fogie hobby either (although some of my friends do!)

I'm an oldie but goodie who only started stitching a couple years ago. I did do some printed xs in my twenties and liked it, but never did much. I'm 65 now.

I started stitching when I was 7 and have done all sorts knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, cross stitching. I always liked to stitch by hand as the machines I had to use seemed so big and bulky. I have always been quite small.

I am now 45, just so you can tell your boyfriend.

We have a couple of teens that come on and post once in a while but have lately been missing and CF's daughter has stitched some very nice projects.

So it is an all age hobby.

I'm 28, and been stitching since I was 4, when my mum tought me. I also crochet, and do a bit of knitting as well. I also refer to them as my "granny-hobbies", mostly for a joke. Several of my friends are crafters, too.

I find stitching to be a great stress relief, and being a teacher, it is much needed  (and the most important thing is that I really enjoy doing it, and then I don't care if some think it's just for "old" women!)

I am 58 but have been stitching since I was 8 years old. I also learned to knit and crochet around the same time.
However two of my daughters (25 and 27) both stitch and I have taught three of my grandchildren, one of whom is a boy and they are 7, 8 and 10 years old and very keen.

I am 44, have been stitching for 3 years, but learnt it as a kid from my mum and grandma. I have been knitting from my teenage years, though.

I'm 42. I have been stitching since I was in the brownies. I made a tray cloth on gingham and put a cross stitch on every other square and was hooked.
My Mum despairs of me because although I will sew anything decorative, curtains, blinds, cushions and of course my actual stitching, I can't/won't hem trousers, shorten sleeves or sew buttons on. Life is too short and a lady in the village provides a fantastic service for a few pounds.

I'm 33. I started stitching in my teens, fell out of the habit in my early 20s and picked it back up again in February 2009.

I'm 22 and have been stitching since I was 18 or 19.
Last year I introduced my friend (age 20)
2 weeks ago I got another friend hooked (age 23) who in turn got her boyfriend hooked (age 25)
And my hubby also loves cross stitching when he gets time (which he unfortunately doesn't at the moment ) (he's 31)

I do sometimes say its my "old lady" hobby, but then I sometimes call myself an old lady! I don't enjoy going out getting wasted and haven't for a few years now. I don't see the point!

It's each to their own I suppose :)

I am 20 years old, started recently with cross stitching.
When I was a little girl I always thought it was a hobby for old ladies, but now I totally changed my mind about it. It's SO addictive to do, and relaxing too!

I am sure your boyfriend is wrong and the results will be really interesting. Perhaps you could teach him to cross stitch too?

I am all but 74 and have been stitching since I was about 6 or so - it was called embroidery in those days and my grandmother taught me. My mum worked a lot in her aunt's milk bar/sweet shop and my dad was away at the war (WW11) so I spent a lot of time with my grandparents.

I'm 23 and I love my old fashioned hobby as I've now made people call it instead.
