Can anyone recommend an embroidery book. What I am looking for is one that shows you how to do traditional crewel embroidery stitches. Not really interested in a book that shows pistures of finished articles but one showing as many different stitches as possible. Wnat to revisit my past, I originally learned to do embroidery with my grandmother but did not always know the names of the stitches.

Re: Recommendation
I haven't done embroidery before, but have decided to give it a try and bought two books from Amazon: "Sublime Stitching" by Jenny Hart and "A Rainbow of Stitches" by 4 authors.
Sublime Stitching has 3 or 4 pages on the basic tools, about 10 pages on how to use patterns, 10 pages of stitch diagrams (about 2 stitches to a page) and a couple of pages on finishing. The remainder of the book has patterns of various small motifs that can be used to design your own work. There are about 100 pages of patterns.
A Rainbow of Stitches was a disappointment, because it has WAY too many pages with photos of completed projects -- like one small project to an entire page. It does have a lot of both embroidery and cross stitch patterns (small motifs to use in your design). Only about 2 pages of basic stitches. But I could have done with more information and lots fewer photos. The book is 240 pages and about 100 of them are photo pages.
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, and I haven't used the books yet. But this might help you decide if you come across them on Amazon.

I picked up this book from the library. It is "Shay Pendray's Needlecraft Projects" by the Embroidery Studio. The whole book has all kinds of embroidery stitches and shows different projects u can stitch when using those special stitches. It is a very informative book.

Re: Recommendation
The Cross Stitchers Bible by Jane Greenhoff which my Wife bought is very comprehensive. There are lots of different types of stitches in it, but I didn't spot a Crewel Stitch, but there seems to everything there that anyone would want.
Happy stitching.

Happy stitching.

Thanks for your replies, I will enjoy looking at these suggestions.
I already have the stitchers bible but did not think to look in it. Will take it to the hospital with me tomorrow and have a good look. May not have to buy a new book after all....or will I, silly question of course I will!!!!!
