Opinions about Fray Stop / Fray Check / Glue

Normally I hand-sew the edges of my aida, but evenweave just seems too fragile for my clumsy sewing. Besides, I'm getting impatient with the amount of time spent on edging, so am trying to find a better way to stop fraying on my projects. I bought some Fray Stop and have tried it on a small piece of 28 ct Jobelan. Waiting for it to dry now.

Just wondering who's tried this method and what they thought about it.

I tried fray check on my Jobelan and it worked perfectly. The fabric on the edges are stiffer now, but I can't see why that would be an issue for anyone so long as they are using a 3 inch allowance on all sides. I used it to seal the edges of my of my HAEDs.

I've used Dritz "Fray Check" and June Tailor "FrayBlock" for years now, with no problems on any fabric. I don't have a sewing machine and l've never been taught proper handstitching, so my options are limited. The June Tailor product works especially well.

I tried some fray stop a few years back and it was a total disaster. It never set up and was stitcky everytime I tried to stitch. So I stick with my machine zigzaging.

i use fray stop when i put my work in the snaphoop frames or when making up little gifts that get glued or stuck onto something, magnets, bookmarks ect. when i am stitching, i zigzag the raw edges of my fabric on my sewing machine. The fray stop is great though, i have never had a problem with it

Being in CA, you may have an even harder time finding a good one. The June Tailor that I like must have a fairly high VOC content. The carrier evaporates pretty quickly and it has that smell beloved by modelers.

I haven't tried Fray Stop (actually I hadn't heard of it before I joined the forum).

I use PVA craft glue and dab it around the edges of my evenweave for my HAEDs with a tiny paint brush. It dries stiff in about 2 hours and works a treat. I've been working on my Bubble Telescope HAED for 18 months and not had a single fibre escape so far.

I've used Fray Check once and it was fine, but for some reason I continue to prefer hand-stitching round the edges.
