Advice on Satin threads required please!

Post by starchild202 »

I am doing a sampler for my sister's wedding present and I am all done except for the inscription. I bought this beautiful blue satin thread from DMC to do it in and when I put it on the bobbin today I totally got freaked out! It is so much smoother and silkier than I am used to and I am afraid I am going to mess it up. Has anyone used this kind of thread and have some tips to calm my nervous butterflies? Thanks all!

I think I know what thread you are talking about. I have used it and it is not anything to be afraid of just use it like regular cotton. You should consider using a shorter length and be prepared to have to run it under more threads then normal when you finish of as it is quite slippery so you will want to be sure to anchor it well. Other wise it is just thread. Enjoy the feel of it in your hands.

I used it and stitched and egg for the egg exchange. It is very slippy and I found the best way to work with it is not to long a piece of thread and tie it to your needle as you will constantly be rethreading it. Apart from this is behaves well and is very nice to stitch with.

I have never tied thread to my needle. How does that work? Thank you ladies, I am feeling much better and will be tackling it after work today!

When you thread your needle, fold your thread over the eye and then push the fold through the eye. This will give you a little loop. Adjust this loop until it is big enough for your needle to do through it. Further adjust the 'tail' of the loop to shorten it, and there you have it. This ensures your thread will stay threaded. Also good for metallic threads.

Thank you so much ladies for all your helpful tips! I started today and although it took a bit more patience then usual it wasn't as scary as I thought! The tying the thread to the needle is a big life saver! I wish I had known about that when I was doing metallic threads in another project! I am so excited to get this done! Already I am really proud of it. Thank you so much for all your help and encouragement!
