I have a project on my hands and was hoping some of you might have some hints to make my time more effective.
I have inherited my mom's threads and I was so pleased to see them threaded in bobbins (?) and in a box. Then I realized my mom never numbered most of the threads
I guess I'll end up going to the stores and comparing colors but didn't know if there was a quicker easier method.
To be honest, I think that would be quite difficult especially if you don't know which brand they are. How about if you just used them for small projects, like cards, bookmarks etc.
I would also suggest putting them in colour order (you know, blues together, greens together etc) then then you'd be able to see what shades you have rather than having to search through the whole box. (If they've not been done already of course )

I agree this would be a tough job... Do you know what brand they are? When she bought them? Dye lots change so it would be hard to figure out exactly what colors they are...

And also, I don't know how old the threads are, but I'm told that DMC changes his "bath" of coloring each 6 weeks, so there would be a different of shade. I have threads I bought a year ago and some I bought last week, and the shade is really different.
I wind mine on bobbins also, but before I wind them I stick the number on the bobbin. It may be worth unwinding one to see if your mother did this as well.
