This newest WIP is going to be for an online friend whose husband was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. It's very fast acting and he's already in hospice care and the end is very much in sight.
This design jumped out at me as being both comforting (the cabin) and optimistic (the sunrise) but it also makes me think of a journey (the lantern and boat).
This is my first time doing a kit (it's a Dimensions "Gold Collection" Petite). It's on 18ct Aida and will be 5x7. It's my first time doing a piece that has both half- and cross-stitch and my first time doing backstitch. Wish me luck!
Here is what the finished product will look like:

The meaning behind it would be so comforting if I were in that position. What a lovely gift to be making for a friend

What a wonderful choice -- you have given symbolic meaning to an already lovely piece and made it very meaningful!

I figured I'd better post my own progress pics, so here we are after night 1. Tent stitch is so much faster than full cross!
It doesn't look like much, but it's about 1/8 done already.
