Some of my finished pieces.

Post by camaro88lover »

I just joined this morning  I wanted to share a few of my completed pieces with you gals!

First up, a dragon I finished about 6 or 7 years ago. He took me quite some time - maybe three years - to complete. He's done on 18 count Aida cloth. It's hard to see in the picture, but there are beads outlining his chest, wings, and pendant. I put a quarter in there so you can tell his size a little better. At the time, he was the most complex piece I ever made.

Image

Next, a cute mare and foal piece. This one is done on 14 count Aida cloth. I forgot to put a coin in the picture for scale, but it’s about 10 inches by 14 inches. This one only took me about 3 or 4 months.

A piece I just finished a couple weeks ago. This one is a phoenix done on 14 count Aida cloth. Again, forgot to put a coin in for scale, but it’s about 12 inches by 14 inches. This one took about 3 to 4 months as well. This one was done for a friend. I particularly like the fact that there’s no outlining on this piece at all. It really adds to the “fire” part of the phoenix in my opinion.

Image

Lastly, my personal favorites. These three pieces are from a book by Teresa Wentzler. The book has four seasons of Carousel Horses in them. These are the most complex pieces I have ever done. The amount of backstitching in them is beyond crazy!!

They are all created on 22 count Hardanger cloth. I used two strands of floss and went over two threads on the fabric (essentially making it 11 count I believe). This was a mistake by me actually. You see, I bought the 22 count Hardanger because I was trying to get a small count fabric, but I don’t like working with linen (what the book calls for). However, I tried 2 strands over 1, but it was just too dang small for me. So, since I already bought the fabric, I decided to do 2 strands over 2  Oh well, right? I actually like the way it came out – adds a bit of whimsy to the pieces. Because I did one of them like this, I have to do all of them like this to keep them the same. As a result, the pieces come out quite large - almost 20 inches by 30 inches (I have a quarter in the pictures for scale).

Anyway, I have one left – Summer. The first one I did was Autumn and it took me about 3 years to complete as I put it down for a while. Here’s Autumn:

Image

The next one I made was Spring and it took me about a year as I really didn’t put it down like I did with Autumn:

Image

Finally, here’s Winter (shown with a penny for scale). This one took me about 8 months – again, I didn’t put it down like Autumn  It is hard to tell in the photo, but Winter has beads in it. There are holly “berries” which are rose-colored seed beads. Also, in the snowflakes there are clear/crystal seed beads.

Image

Right now, I have this kit that I plan on starting: http://www.eksuccessbrands.com/dimensio ... _35260.htm" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

I think it’s adorable and I love the colors in it.

However, this forum is extremely influential as I am going to buy this HAED pattern (today I think  Although the website isn’t working for me right now, so this link may not work either): http://heavenandearthdesigns.com/index. ... ts_id=5057" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

It will be my first ever HAED design. I just love the piece! It’s so dang CUTE and reminds me of my kitty and how he sleeps.

I have also fallen in love with this pattern and I think I might purchase it as well: http://www.classiccrossstitch.com/image ... ew1009.jpg" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank

Anyway, thanks for looking at my pieces and I look forward to seeing all YOUR WIPs and completed pieces!!

Oh such beautiful pieces. I just love the fact that the horses are bigger they will be such a feature.
I know what you mean about how influential they are here. Just seeing all the work has really gotten me back into stitching. I stopped and started for a good few years but like you just started my first HAED and loving it. I was even inspired to start a second one the other day tho it is only a QS about 40,000 stitches but really enjoying it.

Thank you all!

Ahaha...what gave that away  My other obsession is actually collecting and showing model horses, so the cross-stitching of them is another outreach from that hobby I think.

The Carousel Horses are so darn BIG! I honestly don't even know what I'm going to do with them - they'd fill a whole wall in my house - seriously! I suppose I could rotate them for the Seasons, but they're all so cool that I'd want to see them all at once.

Your pieces are beautiful. I love all of the carousels and the phoenix. I cannot wait to see the next carousel. Welcome to the forum. Do you have a camaro now? If so can we see pics? I know this isn't a car forum, but my hubby is a camaro man and I thought I'd ask.

Thanks! I sure do! The Camaro I have right now is a 1988 - base model. My favorite feature of the car is the spoiler - it was only offered in 1988 and only for a short time (6-ish months). It's the first car I ever bought - back in 2000. Sadly, she is not looking good right now - her age is truly showing :( This is a photo at a car show I took her to back in 2002 or so. Her paint looks REALLY bad now - all the clear coat is coming off. She's not registered (I can't get her to pass CT emissions), so she sits...waiting for me to restore her.

Hehe - I got it from White Willow Stitching: http://shoppe.whitewillowstitching.com/ ... d_240.html" target="_blank

They have another phoenix I like a lot too:
http://shoppe.whitewillowstitching.com/ ... _1957.html" target="_blank

I will say though that I absolutely DESPISE their patterns. They print the pattern on pages, which is alright, but they do NOT grey out the first two lines so that it's easy to switch from page to page. I guess this isn't a problem if you are one to finish a whole page and move on, but I bounce around and finish sections on a piece (like a head, a wing, a tail, etc).

Nice car too! I'm a Firebird fan myself, but I do like the Camaros! I saw an early 70's model Camaro yesterday that was in amazing condition. I just stared at it and drooled!
