HAED conversion factor
Hello there,
I ordered a chart from HAED that was missing a floss usage chart. When I emailed them they replied with a text chart that didn't have the numbers rounded off (not every number was 1, 2, or 19). From there I was able to figure out the conversion factor, which may help some people when figuring out how much thread to buy for multiple projects.
What you do is multiply the amount of Full stitches (listed in the floss usage chart) by 0.00028 and that tells you how much of a full skein of DMC thread you use.
Project A
# Full X Factor Skein Estimate
154 250 0.00028 0.07
155 8 0.00028 0.00224
156 65 0.00028 0.0182
158 102 0.00028 0.02856
159 107 0.00028 0.02996
Project B
# Full Skein Estimate
154 33 0.009
So now I know that for DMC 154 I do not need to buy 2 skeins, only 1.
I hope this information is helpful to someone!
ETA This is for 25ct fabric, full crosses. I believe its estimated for 1 over 1. Both charts that I have say to stitch 1 over 1. Anyone else with a HAED chart can jump in and say if their charts are recommended to be 2 over 1 or 1 over 1.

Re: HAED conversion factor
Wow!
Thanks for figuring that out. I did some quick searching while trying to combine floss for 3 projects. I rounded it out to be appx 3500 full cross stitches per skein.

Re: HAED conversion factor
According to these numbers its 3572.

Edited because I can do complex math, but not count or spell.

Re: HAED conversion factor
I've done something similar to this, as I built up enough of a collection of HAED charts with floss lists to be able to estimate, I work to the rough figure of 3,500 stitches per skein as well, glad both of our calculations add up the same!

LOL I suck at complex math. Somewhere between the . and the 000's I get lost. And don't even try throwing a letter in there!!According to these numbers its 3572.![]()

Re: HAED conversion factor
I'm guessing this is for using 2 strands on 25 count?

Re: HAED conversion factor
Is this for doing full crosses or tent stitch? A friend gave me a HAED chart for my birthday which doesn't have a floss usage chart with it (and if it weren't for this site I wouldn't have even expected one!) so this kind of conversion calculation will be really useful to know when I start it

Re: HAED conversion factor
I wondered how to work out the usage for my HAED design, on 18ct aida. So I multiplied everything by 2.8, divided by 0.3 and then by using the square route of pi .... decided it was better to guess!
Maths never was my thing .....

That would have been very good information for the first post! Its in there now. =)Kute Kitty wrote:Is this for doing full crosses or tent stitch? Re: HAED conversion factor
If you email the HAED people at the contact us form on their page and tell them which chart they will email the floss usage chart to you. That can be a bit easier than going through and counting how many stitches of a certain color there are. This information is more useful for people who wanted to check or to know how much thread to buy for multiple projects.Kute Kitty wrote:Is this for doing full crosses or tent stitch?
