Large patterns?

Post by Capricious »

I was wondering if anyone here can point me towards a collection of large cross stitch designs that are not HAED or Mystic Stitch. I'm looking for designs of the style Lesley Teare and Joan Elliott favour. Any ideas where I can search? My mother complained that my cross stitch patterns are never larger than 18" by 18". I'm looking for designs to be stitched 2x1 on 28 count fabric. The finished design I'm hoping will be about 24" on one side.

Thanks for the links, Maemae. Not quite what I was looking for though... You know how in designs by Joan Elliot and Nora Corbett, they make use of about 20 colours at the most and make the most amazing patterns using shading effects, metallics and beads while letting the background fabric show? That's the sort of design I'm looking for and not the picture to cross stitch pattern that HAED and Mystic Stitch are famous for. Any other suggestions?

If u have Cross Stitch Gold Collection there are lots of big patterns and Lesley Teare's charts are also in the magazines. If u have Joan Elliott's Native American Cross Stitch hard-cover book, there are lot of big patterns in there too. I find many Joan Elliott's charts in the British # 1 The CrossStitcher magazines too.

Joan has a couple of books, one of fantasy. Also you might be able to get some individual charts, I think polstitches has not just her patterns, but kits too

Monsterbubbles!

Most of her patterns are bigger, and she doesn't use beads so much, but uses a lot of variegated or hand dyed floss to get the textured effect, and she always has a lot of background fabric showing because she likes to use pretty hand-dyeds. Seriously LOVE her patterns, I have about 8 or 9 in my stash to stitch!

You can purchase Joan Elliott's charts directly from her. Any design that appears in a magazine becomes available for purchase through her blog 6 months (I think it's 6 months) after publication. She has some larger charts.

Teresa Wentzler also has large detailed charts, some are still available through Leisure Arts and Patterns Online.
