You're too modest, Koko. That ornament looks amazing!

Re: Christmas Stitching 2010
Thanks so much for the encouragement! I've never done any type of sewing so I have trouble figuring out how to finish things off. I kept undoing and redoing this one to get it to look right. It took me a total of 9 hours to do over 3 evenings. Now that I figured out how to do it, hopefully it won't take so long for the next one!kell wrote:I agree - the finish is gorgeous! And I think the squares look like they could be Rhodes squares. Am I right?Kute Kitty wrote:You could've fooled me! I hope you only mean it takes you longer than you would like, because in terms of quality and beauty of finish, yours takes the cake!koko wrote:I'm not too good at finishing
Those boxes that make up the border, are they done in satin stitch? I'm asking because I'm never entirely sure what satin stitch looks like but they look lovely!
The squares in the border are scotch stitch. The design is part of the Victoria Sampler Beyond X-Stitch series. Each design focuses on a different specialty stitch.
I just have to say too that this thread is so inspiring - I love looking at everyone's fabulous ornaments, cards and other Christmas stitching. This is such a talented group of people! I love to look at this thread to get new ideas

Hi all
I love making cards, as i enjoy doing quick and easy projects, however i have some spares and would love to give them to charity. Anyone know of anywhere i could send them please, thanks.

This was way back on page 5 but I found it.
I have finished the gift for my SIL she is a reader and her fav author writes a series using the Alphabets so I did this bag and also a bookmark for her.

I really love the ornaments everyone is doing. Can you please give me tips on how you are finishing them? All the ornaments I've done in the past get the cardboard backing * lace trim that comes with the kits. I'd really like to give it a more polished look for my "grown up" Christmas tree.

Rose those gifts for your SIL are beautiful!!! I love the lettering you used on the bookmark, so elegant!
This page has a listing of many finishing tutorials that I found very helpful. To finish my ornaments I did the lacing technique to attach my stitching to a piece of cardboard with quilt batting. I did the same for the back with the complimentary fabric. I then sewed both pieces together using a ladder stitch, and used craft glue to attach the cording around the edges.
I just surfed online until I found some tutorials. I ended up combining some of the techniques from different tutorialsVega wrote:I really love the ornaments everyone is doing. Re: Christmas Stitching 2010
Have just spent most of the afternoon putting finished stitching into cards *needs exhausted smiley* -- there are also some "general purpose" ones and the bookmark card which I'll put in my WIP thread. But the rest is Christmas!
Here are some "spare" Christmas cards using left-over stitching -- the top cards are metallic blue and purple and look quite, uhm, startling with the light blue and lilac hardanger

And here are the ten hardanger tinies for my stitching group ladies:

I've also done 16 of the Madonnas so far, and hope to finish the rest tonight -- I'll photograph them tomorrow when I've got them all.
Well, all except one
The very first I did, with beads for the halos -- the thread is breaking in various places! And it was that fly-fishing silk which is supposed to be so strong; I won't be using that again! Over the weekend I'll unpick all the beads (to be re-used at some later date) and re-stitch the halos in gold thread.
