I need help choosing fabric for my one of my HAED's

Post by Jamielea »

I bought two HAED charts yesterday and one of them says you should ideally use 18 count linen for the design. I've just done a search online for it and can't find any 18 count :? I've only ever stitched on aida so I'm finding the whole thing a bit daunting to be honest! Can anyone tell me where to buy 18 count linen? If not do you know of any fabric I could use as an alternative? Thanks xx

Usually, HAED's are done on 25 count Luguna.
You can use any count but then the size alters. If you are happy doing it on 18 ct Aida then go for it.

I would go for 18ct aida, if that's what you're happy working with!! It's what I'm using for mine and it's great!! :D

Thanks for your replies. Yes I thought HAED's were worked on 25 count too and I think most of them probably are but this one I have is from HAED's Tiny Treasures range (I'm doing a small one first to see how I go before I even consider tackling the larger ones) so maybe that's what makes the difference? Anyway, I'm happy to stitch on aida so I'll use that. I just wanted your opinions first as I wouldn't want anything to go wrong. Thanks again xx

I know Zweigart has a 20ct linen called Cork, but I don't know of an 18ct one. You can get 18ct evenweave, like Zweigart's Davosa.

I'm currently working my AAN tree (see my project thread for pics) on 18 ct Davosa, and it is lovely to work on. I almost think it's easier than 18 ct aida. The holes seem a bit bigger and the material is much more supple.

I've recently started experimenting different fabric types, and feel the most comfortable with Aida as well.. Aida should work just fine, so if that's what you want to use then I say go for it :)

Thanks very much for all your replies. I am more comfortable with Aida but that's because I've never tried anything else :thinks: I do want to try different fabrics though so I might go with the evenweave just so that I can get some practice in. Thanks again everyone for being so helpful x
