Hi! I am sure this topic must have been discussed before but I tried a search and couldn't find anything, so maybe it's just easier to ask again. My apologies if this means repetition for everyone else.
I'm getting together all the bits and pieces I need to do my first HAED and, as I've always used Anchor threads in the past, I'm having to start again thread-wise. Where would you recommend to buy DMC at a reasonable price? I had a look at Hobbycraft (my only non-online option locally) and they were 85p . Surely there are cheaper options? I have to HAEDs to kit up, so I'm hoping the answer is yes!
Any help very much appreciated. Thank you.

Being a DMC girl I have the whole collection so I understand the quality of the thread but I am sure that some of the other girls on this site us Anchor and they do HAED so I am curious as to why you have to buy the DMC's? I think HAED does a conversion of the threads for you. Can you contact them and ask if they have that option for your charts.
Just another idea.
If you are looking for some one to help change you, look in the mirror
Thank you everyone, as always, for the advice. I love how everyone is so helpful on here.
Rose - the first kit I started to sort out was a Storykeep, so fairly small, and I sat down with a DMC/Anchor conversion chart from Sewandso, but more than one of the DMC numbers were at the same Anchor number. I realise that colours will never be an exact match and that doesn't worry me so much, but to have a couple of instances where I'm essentially losing a colour doesn't seem to be a good idea. Won't I be losing detail if I'm losing variety of colour?
I thought I'd look at the storykeep first before I tackle my first "proper" HAED, just to get the feel of them. I'll contact HAED and see if they can convert the colours differently. Good suggestion! Thank you!

I see you are doing Mary Hickmott's Owls of Britain... well, if you also join the forum at New Stitches, you will have access to the "thread converter" which will give you an indication of how good a match the colours are between DMC and Anchor.
I have used both sorts of threads (occasionally in the same piece... ) and both are of excellent quality. I am slowly growing an Anchor collection, via kits, but my heart is with DMC, which has a wider colour range, I understand.
I buy mine from ABC Stitch at $0.49 each...the only thing I don't like about ABC Stitch is the shipping prices, so when I buy I make sure I'm having enough sent to make it worth the shipping. They have a flate rate of $5.95 up to a certain weight (clueless as to what weight that is, but they'll ship a lot for it). ABC Stitch
You could also try Everything Cross Stitch...same $0.49 price, possibly a difference in shipping. Everything Cross Stitch

Can I just say thanks to kute kitty and skitzzzzz? I had a look at the Katz site just now and it's a great site! I think that's looking like my best option. I did email HAED about a conversion but haven't had a reply yet, but IU think I'll wait another couple of days just in case.
Thanks again for all the help and advice.

I've just purchased mine from http://www.strandedcotton.co.uk" target="_blank" target="_blank. I ordered 50 and they were 40p each. I wasn't happy that I didn't receive a order/delivery confirmation from them (until I chased them that is!) and the fact that it took nearly 2 weeks for them to arrive but they are so cheap, I'm no longer complaining! They did apologise for the delay though and I'm definitely going to use them again as I have quite a few HAED's lined up and when you're ordering in bulk like I just have it saves a lot of money! Hope this helps x
Edited to say: The threads I purchased were DMC

I've used this shop http://embroidery.highwire.com/" target="_blank for once and it was ok. They don't have all the threads of floss (you might want to check the list first) and they changed 3-4 colours without asking from me (I bought 50 skeins). But I'm going to use it again, because their customer service were great and delivered my skeins pretty fast.
