Hospital visit

Post by grub72 »

This is a story of what i went through on Wednesday night. I was sitting down not doing anything after my girl guides meeting when all of a sudden i got a stabbing pain in my left side of my chest. My arm was feeling like it was dead and had no energy. I was seeing if the pain would go away but it didn't, so i ended up calling an Ambulance. I got to the hospital and they didn't have any beds so i was sent out into the waiting area and had to wait there. 6 hrs later, lost in the system, 2 panadiene forte later i was found in the system and had to wait again for 20 mins this time, i was in the emergency ward on a chair bed. They gave me 2 more pain killers and i tried to get some sleep but i was still in pain and have not been diagnosed yet or been told what was wrong with me,,,i had to have a x ray to see if i had a blockage in my chest but it was clear.
They finally put it down to my lungs were inflamed, due to i do not know why and i have to see the doctor tomorrow and he might give me another explanation why this keeps on happening,,,this is the 2nd time its happened. I don't want it to happen again as it hurts like crazy each time and scares the daylights out of me. :(

Oh, dear, it must have been frightening, but to be lost in the system after you called an ambulance  - it is outrageous! Can't you complain? What would happen to someone who has a heart attack?

That's really bad of them leaving you for 6 hours. Hope the doctors find out what's wrong soon.

Definitely not good at all. I hope that you get a diagnosis and some help now as I am sure it is as scary as all get out.

Hang in there.

Oh grub that is terrible. I hope they can find the problem and does something to prevent it inthe future. I would definetly make a complaint what if it had been life threatening. They need to look at the system and make it work proper. Very gentle  so as not to hurt you anymore.

I'm so sorry to hear about that.
You might want to check and see if that hospital has some sort of comment card or survey. That sort of a wait and getting lost in the system is ridiculous- especially with your symptoms!!!

I hope everything turns out well with your real doctor. That's so scary.

Thanks for all the replys,,,,my doctor told me this was due to stress and anxiety, as i have had a rough day at guides and i also have my first aid tomorrow and also i miss out on my daughters 11 birthday party. I have to stop getting so anxious and try not to stress about things otherwise i will have another chest pain. I know its easier said then done but i really cant afford to stress out about anything at all.
So thanks again for all the lovely hugs and positive gestures

Glad to hear it is something they can say hey this is what is happening. Stress it can be a killer is there anyone you can talk to when things get tough. Maybe that would help relieve some of the stress.

I'm so glad you are ok!
Did your doc give you any ideas of how to decrease stress? Or can you get a referral of some sort to a de-stressing doc?

I too have chest pain brought on by anxiety/stress, it sucks! I spent 15 years thinking I was always having a heart attack.

The thing that's helped me the most is meditation. I know everyone says that and it sounds so flaky, but I just do 10 minutes/day and it's made a really huge difference. I've been very surprised!

I'm currently reading a book called "Full Catastrophe Living", which is basically the content of a stress clinic run by the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. It's a fantastic book and I really recommend it to anyone with stress/anxiety issues that may be causing physical pain or illness.

I hope you are feeling better knowing whats wrong always helps. can't beat stitching to destress. I suffer with server depression and the first think that anyone says to me is why arn't you stitching they then know somethings wrong. keep you chin up I hope you have lots of support from the guides and friends.
