Sarah83 Winter scene

Post by Sarah83 »

I made a start on this.
Image

Have to say it seems to have some very strange colour combinations. It also looks as though I'm supposed to use 2 different coloured threads at once in places as that's how some of them are sorted. Course I can't read the instructions as they're in Japanese so I'm just guessing there. We'll see how it turns out.

Here's what I've done so far. Excuse the creases in the fabric.
Image

And a close up since that one shows nothing really.
Image

It's the top left corner of the picture and I'm using dark green and pale pink thread for what I assume are tree branches. I'm really not sure how this is going to work out but I'm intrigued and don't want to put it down

Wow, that's a beautiful picture! I'll be interested to see how this turns out since the directions aren't in English. Good luck!

Lovely design! As for the "double" threads, I think you may mean blending. It is a method to achieve very subtle colour changes (or sometimes more texture, if the two shades are very different) by stitching with two different colours in your needle, one strand of shade A and one strand of shade B. Is there a lot of it?

You and me both Oiralinde

About half the picture appears to be done that way Mabel, some of the colours are vastly different while others are quite similar. Thankfully the threads are pre-sorted that way otherwise I'd have had no clue.

Sarah...I'm not sure if this would help, but http://www.manayo.com" target="_blank is a website mainly for japanese, Chinese, Malysian, etc people to find penpals. Most of them are really helpful and will happily translate for you, if you're willing to talk to them and help them with their English. One of them told me that he was studying English language at school, which is why he was looking for English speakers to talk to. Just incase you get stuck and actually need the instructions... Just an idea.

But you've made beautiful progress, and I can totally see why there's pink in it, it looks more wintery, kinda like the sun's reflecting off of tree ice..

Looks good so far - the tree branch mix looks like it is slightly snowy, that blend really works!

Great start! I agree the tree branch blend works to create the right level of depth and shading.

 I'm almost worried to say this because I don't want to cause trouble or unnecessary concern for you :( , but since the directions aren't English, I'm just curious....are you sure the yellow is the right one for the sky? I know you said the threads were pre-sorted, so you probably do have it right, but I know my kit (I've decided I don't like them at all) was a bit off with one of my blue shades. The yellow you have seems very bright in comparison to the lighter setting/rising sun type color that is in the completed picture. I'd hate to see you get to far along only to find the kit sorted the thread incorrectly :( .

Thanks folks. I was a bit  about the dark green/light pink combo at first but it does seem to work well overall. Angel, thanks for the link, I could always take a picture of the instructions and ask someone for help if I get too confused :D

I have wondered about this myself but I'm just gonna go with it and see how it turns out. It does look very bright but the other yellows in the kit are a very similar shade so even switching them around probably wouldn't make much difference. There are other parts I can see looking a lot brighter or darker when stitched than they appear to be in the completed picture. I'm rather intrigued as to how it's going to look when complete and so far I'm enjoying stitching it far more than my Winnie the Pooh one.

Good call. If it ends up looking different than the box, blame it on artistic license. Plus, who's gonna see the box once you are done?

Looks great! Maybe the sky is supposed to be half crosses - that would lighten it up quite a bit... I know in a lot of the projects I have, the background is quite often done in half crosses.

Could be Parksfarm, that's the problem with not being able to read the instructions I guess.

I have no idea how big this is going to be as I can't read that either  The piece of aida it's stitched on practically covers a whole seat on the sofa though so pretty big.
