Hi Mabel

sorry its taken me soooo long to reply, i usally only get on here at work and everythings been mad lately!

Anyway I just wanted to say a huge thank you for answering my question on coasters, it will be a big help.

I'm working my way through the Beyond Cross Stitch kits (Level 1) and wasn't sure what to do with them once i had finished, having only framed finished pieces before, then i saw yours and got inspired to give it a go!

Your work is amazing by the way :applesauce:

Thanks again
Beth xx

You're welcome. Beth, don't forget to post pics! I did one of the Beyond Cross Stitch series, they may be a bit too big for most standard coasters, and of course beads/charms would make it difficult to mount them like that, but with a little adaptation they would make a great set of coasters!

Some of you may remember that DH and i went to his uncle's funeral recently, and DH's cousin quoted St Francis of Assisi in his eulogy of his father. I thought it would be a nice gesture to turn the quotation into a stitched piece and give it to DH's aunt at the Memorial get-together in March (she is very creative, she composed a piece for the children [all grown-up] and several cousins to sing at the memorial).

She's not a stitcher, but for myself I couldn't resist having some Assisi work in there :-)! I may make a few changes to this but this is more or less what it will look like (slightly different colours though: the lettering and backstitch brown, the square around the P in a variegated warm gold, probably Waterlilies or Gloriana, the Hardanger cross in cream perles, the beads probably cream, possibly gold)

Mabel - I've been meaning to ask for ages, you did some Assisi bookmarks for your course didn't you? Would you be happy to share the chart? I'd like to try some Assisi work with the variegated thread I bought at Ally Pally.

Good design, Mabel. May have to do that for a friend of mine. But I can't help myself... how about a comma after 'necessary'... it just leapt out at me. sorry

Serinde, I tried adding a semi-colon after "times" but couldn't get it to look right :-(. Feel free to add whatever you think looks suitably comma-esque after "necessary", though :-)!

Helbel, I think I posted the chart in the original thread about the course, I'll see if I can dig it up, if not I'll repost the chart!

Mabel, fabulous idea for your Aunt (in Law?), so thoughtful and the assisi in the design was begging to be included wasn't it?!

For what it's worth, I'm not sure any punctuation is needed after 'necessary'. Grammatically there's no doubt that a comma could easily sit there, but for this piece I think it would interrupt the visual flow of the phrase. Just my tuppence-worth  .

Slinky, I am usually an absolute stickler, not to say pedant, about grammar and punctuation, but while designing this I definitely had the near-sacrilegious thought that perhaps in some contexts it is better not to be too strict about it :-)

Last night I managed to finish Necessities    ! I now need to buy cream felt and buttonhole-stitch all round the edge of the canvas, catching the felt, then glue the whole thing to the pine box holding my hoops (perhaps I should have changed the design to include H for Hoops as well as Fabric, Needle and Thread :-)) which has yet to be varnished, so lots to do still but the actual stitching is done! Here it is:

At some point I'm going to quit being awed by the quality and impressed by the quantity of your work.....but not any time soon. :D

It's beautiful.

I do like Necessities. It's such a simple looking design, which is just the type that I like. It look so neat and uncluttered. Lovely! :D
