Stamped Cross Stitch to Counted Cross Stitch?

Post by noctifyre »

I was just wondering if anyone out there has ever had an experience with this - is it all that difficult to transfer a stamped cross stitch pattern over to counted cross stitch?

The sole problems I could think of is in regards to any satin stitches that might exist within the design...

My first experience in cross-stitching was a stamped baby bib (Disney). I noticed that the X were not even and I was not really satisfied with the finished bibs. I stitched another bib using waste canvas and the chart that came with the stamped X stitch and the end result was much better. Then I switched over to using pre - aida baby bibs instead and followed the key chart. I stopped using stamped cross stitch kit from then on.

i have a few stamped cross stitch items, mainly pillow cases, a few table runners and a doily set. I did one years ago and it came out okayish but I''ve not attempted one since. Would like to try again but have been a bit dubious for the same reasons as you..the uneven look from the stamping.

I personally have never attempted stamped cross stitch, however my best friend did it for some years. I just last month got her to try her first counted project and she fell in love and wondered why it took her so long to make the jump. She much prefers the neater finish to the counted versus the haphazard placement of stamped stitches, and loved not having to worry if all the pre-printed x's were covered thoroughly.

I don't know why it could not be done. The basic pattern is easy enough to do. The one thing that might be different would be most stamped patterns are of the larger X's so the size would probably be a bit smaller finish but everything else should be pretty easy to transfer.

Stamped XS always seemed like cheating to me. LOL I've never done it.

k so ur post got me thinking..i had a kit i got from a friend who no longer stitches...it's stamped..but the designs are soooo cute...and i was thinking of stitching them on plain aida..not bibs..cause one bear is awake and the other is sleeping..so i was thinking a pillow to hang on the doorknob of a nursery..awake and asleep...it hit me.i have to do this soon lol..so i looked at the chart w/ the thought of counted stitching..and its completely doable..until i saw the bear's nose...long stitches..not sure the proper name..but i'm sure i can figure it out..
i don't see why it wouldn't be possible

I've done a few stamped ones, but didn't have to stitch the whole picture. Just added highlights for want of a better word. I enjoyed doing them but once finished I didn't get the same happy " I made that feel" as I do with unstamped ones. Felt like I cheated.
Finished:
Massive Disney design
Freddie mercury (for my mum)
Ocras at play.
Dolphins.

I think it would be possible to turn a stamped cross stitch into a counted one. Your idea for the nursery sounds good.
