Slinky's Stitching 2011 - Chatelaine update

Post by Slinky »

Happy New Year everyone! And welcome to my 2011 thread.

I am still continuing with the Water Tiger. I have been able to put loads of time into him this holiday break, and have a couple of update pics for you:

I'm getting there!! I need to finish him to begin my 2011 Big Xmas Project, which is to stitch only Christmas-themed pieces for the whole year.

I have signed up for my first online project, Chatelaine's 2011 Xmas Mystery SAL, but annoyingly, the materials are out of stock so I can't get cracking on the first part. I thought I would also stitch the individual 12 Days of Christmas from The Sweetheart Tree all together. I have the materials for that but have yet to begin.

The plan is that by the end of 2011 I will have several (hopefully) festive pieces to display in place of my normal pictures.

Oh, you have done loads on him and he looks fantastic!!!
Did the hardanger mat go down well?
Can't wait to see the Mystery stitch come to life.
Did you ever dig out the "Kinky Boots" piece and finish it? Maybe I missed it
Those 12 days stitch up beautifully by the way and I am sure by next December, your home will be festooned with gorgeous festive pieces.
2022 is yet another year of the UFO!!

The Hardanger mat went down well enough. Mum seemed to like it, she said she did and I noticed she's got in on display in her house, but (and I know we've all experienced this) she was, "oh yes, thanks" and put it away straight away. And I was left thinking, "I spent HOURS on that and you have barely glanced at it" Hey ho ...

And no, Midge, I have yet to complete Kinky Boots  . I will, and you will be first to know when I do!!

Ok, perhaps I was hasty. Have just been round to Mum's and my doily is in pride of place in centre of dining room table. She's forgiven!

 I know that once you've given someone a gift it's theirs to do with as they wish, but it's nice to see that it is actually appreciated!

Remember those coasters I made for my neighbours for looking after our cat? They were being used before Christmas had even come, which was lovely! The only snag with them being used is that when we next went round, his one (F in hand-dyed bright reds) had sucked up some water he'd spilled on the table (the top of the coaster is waterproof, but the bottom obviously isn't....) and the whole thing had a pink aura around it! He was terribly apologetic about it, but his daughter said actually she thought that it was intended like that cause it looked so nice :-)

Re: Slinky's Stitching 2011 - New Project Started!

Post by Slinky »

Despite my best efforts I just couldn't wait till Water Tiger is finished to begin a new project, so I shall do both together!

Kicking off my 2011 Year-of-Christmas-Stitching is the 12 Days of Christmas from The Sweetheart Tree. These are 12 separate mini charts, suitable for cards or ornaments, that I have charted up together in a sampler-style. This is the project kitted up. I'm using Anchor threads on Raw Belfast linen with an opalescent finish:

I have started in the middle(ish) with 7 Swans. This is my progress today:

Not a lot to see yet. The backstitch will bring out the detail in due course.

What do you think?
