Organizing Floss
Do you all organize your floss by color or number in your boxes?

Re: Organizing Floss
I organize mine by number--I have 3 boxes of DMC flosses and then I have two smaller boxes that I use for any ongoing projects--those I usually try and keep in numerical order too, but that doesn't always work out

Colour here too. I have six boxs just for threads I'm not using, I'd never get anywhere finding a thread I needed if I did it by colour as I used to when I only had one box.
Re: Organizing Floss
I organize my floss by their numbers. So far I've just been keeping them on the floss cards from LoRan. Gets a little messy at times, though.

Re: Organizing Floss
My stash is relatively small. Might be up to 60 skeins of DMC colors now. I have them arranged numerically. With all the non-DMC skeins at the end. And I have index cards with holes punched around the parameter for kit leftovers, labeled with the DMC color they are supposed to be.
When I take thread out for projects, I arrange them in the order they are on the key.

Re: Organizing Floss
I keep mine in number order. I have a bunch of charts that don't call them by their "proper" DMC name so it would be nearly impossible to find them by name. Although, at this point my stash is quite old so I've started to get new for a project as I start them, because I'm concerned about fading etc.
Re: Organizing Floss
I go by the number as most charts are organized byt the number so it makes it easier to sort and kit up my projects.

Re: Organizing Floss
I have to have mine by number. I have 3 boxes of DMC so far and need a system. Plus all charts that I've seen refer to the colour number.
Re: Organizing Floss
Numerical order is the only way that I can work. My DMC is in 5 boxes and my Anchor in another 5 boxes. My stock from when I sold thread and fabric to sewing groups is also in numerical order in plastic bags and then in a large container, so well protected. I really should get my act together and start sell this again as people found it very useful to buy by the metre instead of the skein.

I also organize by number. I have 5 boxes of DMC, plus one box I use just to hold what I'm currently using. If I did it by color, it would take me forever to find what I was looking for LOL

I've got two thick folders of DMC on Stitchbows and they're in number order. It makes it a lot easier to find what I'm looking for.

I do mine by number too. The reason I asked this question (and it may sound goofy) is because the floss I add to the box for each new project doesn't fit and I'm always shifting all the bobbins forward. I've filled two boxes now and it's a pain to do all that shifting. Is there a better way or is this just the way it is?
I hope this made sense!

Unfortunately until you get a full set of floss you are going to find this problem. You could leave spaces for the floss you do not have currently but if you are like me you like them to stand up nice for you.

Re: Organizing Floss
I feel your pain! With all the floss I had to pick up for this 15-challenge I've had to organize and re-organize back and forth. There doesn't seem to be a better solution yet. And like Rose I prefer my thread to stand up in the box.Bev wrote:I do mine by number too. Same here and when you take alot out for kitting up one of your projects and put others back from previous projects, it feels like you're forever sorting out your bobbins, but I can't see a way round it.
