I have something to add that I find confusing. It seems hat everyone organizes their floss by number. When you go to buy floss at the store, it's organized by numbers. But then when DMC has their shopping list page in Cross Stitcher, it's sorted by colour. Ever tried using that page? I have a couple times and then stopped using it cause it was too frustrating. I could see if they were using it for in their office for designing. But by number would be easier for their shopping list.

Bev wrote:I do mine by number too. The reason I asked this question (and it may sound goofy) is because the floss I add to the box for each new project doesn't fit and I'm always shifting all the bobbins forward. I've filled two boxes now and it's a pain to do all that shifting. Is there a better way or is this just the way it is?

I hope this made sense!

I feel your pain, that's why I don't buy just the odd skien now, I tend to buy at least 10 a time, and get them done like that. I'd hate to move it all ten times, may as well move it ten spaces 1 time. Not really an easier way though I'm afraid.

That list really annoys me! It was ok for writing up my list on the computer as I just hit a button and it re-organised it all for me by number, but I've never found another use for it.

I've haven't had the frustration with the shopping list as I don't read Cross Stitcher magazine, but I understand where you are coming from. Here are links to the DMC thread lists from their site.. each sorted differently. I wish they were an Excel file and not a PDF.. but hey, I will take what I can get.
The first is by number
The second is by color family

OMG - you are all so organized! Me, not at all.

I have a big beautiful hat box. In it, I have open baggies of thread sorted by color. I always end up "improvising" when I stitch a chart.

I also have a huge bag full of just red, white and blue shades for those Americana projects I plan to start soon...and a box full of metallic threads that I put away somewhere and am hoping to find this year (??)

I recently sorted out all those baskets full of left over threads, and loosely knotted them on card stock. The cards aren't so lovely, but I keep them standing up where I can see them as an inspiration every day!! I took a picture of two of them so you can see what I mean...
