Prevent the aida's corner from breaking

Post by lie_choen »

Hi all,
Don't know if you have the same problem as mine. When i'm doing a large pattern, sometimes i have to fold the aida to reach the middle of it. And by doing that, the edges of the fabric is breaking. Do you know how to prevent that?

Thanks a lot

I usually do a zigzag stitch around the edge of all of my projects.

I am bad and use masking tape round the edges of my fabric.

I'm even worse and totally ignore it and then just trim it at the end. :silenced: :shifty:

 same here, I am lazy! I just make sure to have a large border around the project so it doesn't matter if it frays a bit

I am a taper too. My stitchy store yells at me every time I bring a project in.. I just shrug and say it will be cut off or covered up anyways so what does it matter?

I also tend to leave it as is, but I may change since our new kitty likes to play with the fraying ends! btw, has anyone else noticed that kits tell us to tape the edges?

In the past I usually just let it fray and trimmed as needed. But I just bought some Fray Check at Joann's a couple weeks ago and started using it. I love it! I will probably squeeze a little Fray Check around the edges of all my projects from now on.

If you're not familiar with Fray Check, you can see it here.

I read a tip from someone on this forum a while back who recommended trimming alll the edges with pinking scissors. I do that now and it does keep it from fraying.

This. My LNS owner actually told me about this about a year and a half ago. Fray check is sooo simple and easy to use and works like a miracle! I can't imagine not using it for my projects now (small or large!)

Thanks for the link, I'll have to check that when I'm at JoAnns this week.

If you can't find it in the cross stitch supplies at JoAnns.. look over in the quilting area. Sometimes their packaging is better.. bigger bottles or a package of 2, or its cheaper
